Robinho: “I rejected Barca for Santos” 24

Santos forward and Brazilian international Robinho (26) has claimed he rejected the chance to move to European Champions Barcelona in order to return to Santos. The Brazilian has been in impressive form since rejoining O Peixe on a six-month loan deal from Manchester City in January.

Robinho, who spent the first three seasons of his career at Santos, scored a brace on his home debut in midweek to take his tally to three goals in as many games.

Case Closed: Robinho loaned to Santos (Brazil) 10

Santos has finally done the deal of loaning Robinho. Manchester City announced Thursday that the forward will be loaned to the Brazilian club till the 4th of August. Santos will pay the salary and bonuses of the 26-year-old attacker that time, said the official statement.

Robinho thinks he didn’t played enough for The Citizens and hopes to play every week with his new team. City-coach Roberto Mancini did not expect a departure from the forward, but he can understand the dissatisfaction with Robinho.

“I have five or six excellent strikers and every time I have to decide who plays. I just can not play with four strikers.”

Puyol and Xavi told Pep not to get Robinho 39

British sports tabloid Dailymail, report that Barca’s senior players, including the influential Carles Puyol and Xavi, have told Guardiola – a Robinho fan – that the Brazilian would hurt team spirit in the dressing room.

Robinho’s hopes of seeing out the season in the sunshine of Barcelona look like being dashed as the club’s players are urging coach Pep Guardiola not to sign him on loan from Manchester City.

City boss Roberto Mancini has apparently given the all-clear for £32.5million Robinho to spend the rest of the season somewhere else after a series of poor performances.

Team: “We don’t need Robinho” 31

According to Catalan sport paper El Mundo Deportivo, it is the collective opinion of the players and coaching staff that has helped swayed the club’s decision against signing Robinho (25), as was pronounced by Joan Laporta to the media after his informal meeting Shiekh Mansour, Manchester City owner, in Abu Dhabi on the 17th.

“The club’s president confirmed that, out of respect for the team and coaching staff who believe that they have the depth to succeed this season, has decided not to discuss the matter,” was the news coming out of the meeting that day.

It is assumed that as much as one of Pep Guardiola’s stated request to the club during the summer was for a left-winger – in view of Thierry Henry’s expected move in the near future – the recent performances of Andres Iniesta, Pedro Rodriguez and now Jeffren Suarez in that position may have dampen that need. His decision not to pursue any more players, at least during this winter transfer period, is borne out of his desire to keep the harmony and balance within the team in-check.

This meeting, that was speculated to happen by news media especially the two Catalunya based sports papers El Mundo Deportivo and Sport for weeks now,  rather than confirmed the incorporation of the Brazilian player into the Catalan side, is now the opposite.

Victor Moses a possible alternative for Robinho 17

Catalan sports paper Sport reports that Barcelona would be interested in Crystal Palace forward and English youth international Victor Moses (19). He would be considered as the option for the left wing if the signing of Manchester City forward Robinho (25) fails. British sources, as the Daily Mail, claims that Barcelona would be ready to pay four million euros for Moses during winter transfer market.

Manchester City would reportedly be asking 25 million euros for the services of Robinho, and Barcelona doesn’t want to pay that amount right now, since their intention is to make a loan deal with the Brazilian player. Barcelona is scouting cheaper options like Moses for the left wing, if the Robinho deal doesn’t go through. Several other clubs are also interested in the Nigerian born player, including English Premiere League teams Sunderland, Wigan and Tottenham.

Final push for Robinho? 41

Both Catalan sports papers, Sport and El Mundo Deportivo today carry as their main stories Barcelona’s assumed last ditch effort to sign Manchester City’s and former Real Madrid striker, Robinho (25). With a substantial number of the Catalan’s club big brass, including its president Joan Laporta convening in Abu Dhabi for the FIFA Club World Cup tournament, it is believed that some sort of meetings between them and the English team’s owners could be held in the next few days; a rumour that has been going on and off for months.

This rumour is further exacerbated with reports that Sheikh Mansour Zayed Al Nahyan, Manchester City’s owner will also be in the city for an oil producers meeting this week.

Robinho: “I don’t want to talk about my future” 2

Catalan newspaper El Mundo Deportivo reports that Manchester City forward and Brazilian international Robinho (25) is determined to succeed in the English Premier League and is not thinking about signing for Barcelona during January. “I came to England to win and prove my quality. I think it is possible and I don’t even want to talk about my future,” Robinho said to English media.

“I have a contract with Manchester City and now my mission is to work hard and help the club,” the former Real Madrid player added. The Brazilian made clear he still dreams that the Manchester City fans see the best of Robinho on the field and said: “I will not fail in this venture.” Speaking of his relationship with Manchester City coach Mark Hughes, who was always against the idea of letting Robinho go during winter market, the Brazilian forward explained: “I have spoken with Mark Hughes and he has no problem with me, quite the contrary, he is glad because I return after an injury.”

Franz Beckenbauer: “Robinho can play in circus, not a team player” 14

News reports around the web were abuzz when highly respected former Germany and Bayern Munich’s manager Franz Beckenbauer was quoted to have made a disparaging remark about Manchester City’s Brazilian striker and rumoured Barcelona transfer target, Robinho two days ago when answering a reporter’s question about Brazil’s chances in the World Cup next summer.

“Brazil? I don’t think so. They have one striker (Luis Fabiano), then Kaka a bit behind,” the ‘Kaiser’ said, “And then you have Robinho. He can play in a circus but he’s not a team player.”

Robinho no longer agitating for Barcelona move 25

According to ESPN Soccernet, Manchester City forward and Brazilian international Robinho (25) is no longer agitating for a move to Barcelona as he prepares to return to action for Manchester City. A month ago, Robinho caused controversy at City when he told Brazilian radio station Radio Bandeirantes: “I’m very happy about the interest that Barcelona have in me. Playing at Camp Nou, it is much easier to be the best player in the world than at City.”

Sources close to the player have reportedly told that “it is not true” that Robinho no longer wants to play for Mark Hughes and has set his heart on a move to Barcelona. There are strong reasons Robinho has been advised to forget his desire to play for Barcelona and to knuckle down at Manchester City. Firstly, and perhaps most significantly, the usual behind-the-scenes preliminary negotiations between third parties have broken down. Reports claim that Barcelona do not have the funds available at the moment and have only been seeking a loan deal, which City have ruled out without much consideration.

Robinho wants Manchester City to sit with Barcelona 8

Despite repeated denials from both Barcelona and Manchester City that the convergence of both teams’ delegations in Abu Dhabi are for totally different reasons – City having their winter training break in the Emirates, while Barcelona’s delegation is there for the drawing of the Club World Cup tournament – British based newspaper Guardian reports that unsettled Premiership side’s player, Robinho (25) has instructed his father, Gilvan de Souza, who is also his agent, to do all he can to set up a meeting between the two sides.

It was reported by another British newspaper, Telegraph that the player’s representatives is already in the UAE, staying in the same hotel as the Mancunian team and officials, further flaming the speculations. Barcelona’s technical secretary, Txiki Begiristain, director of football, Raúl Sanllehí, and another director, Albert Perrin, are also reported to be invited to watch City play against the United Arab Emirates national team in a friendly this evening.

Barcelona do not have enough funds for Robinho or Mascherano 10

After being heavily linked with EPL duo Robinho and Javier Mascherano, ESPN soccernet reports that Barcelona have insufficient funds to buy any of the two, a fact that makes a loan move for Robinho much more likely. Barcelona’s lack of finances comes after spending this summer 66 million euro’s on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, including Samuel Eto’o. Robinho wants a transfer to Barcelona, who wants to loan him as they cannot afford him, and there are no guarantees of a future move. A source close to the club is supposed to have said that Barcelona have made it clear that they want him on loan:

Barcelona have made it clear they are talking about a loan deal only and it is hard to believe that will happen. Barcelona were, at one time, very interested in Mascherano, but no longer. At one stage I would have said ‘yes’ that a deal could happen, but now I would have to say ‘no’. I would say that Barcelona do not have the sort of funds to buy either Robinho or Mascherano.”

Txiki rejects Robinho rumours 3

Barcelona’s appearance in Abu Dhabi have started lots of rumours about Robinho, as Manchester City will play a friendly in that town during those days. These rumours were rejected by Txiki:

We won’t be meeting with City. We’re respectful and it hasn’t been decided who should come, not even if anyone has to come and who it should be. There’s a prior stage missing which is a meeting between Guardiola and me. Once the decision has been taken we will follow the strategy for any signing. This meeting – between the manager and the technical secretary – hasn’t taken place yet. So we’re going to see the City match and that’s all.

Hughes: “Robinho will stay at Manchester City” 7

According to foxsoccer.com, Manchester City coach Mark Hughes insists that Robinho’s future still lies with Manchester City after playing down the talk that Robinho would for Barcelona in January. The Brazilian star is currently out of action with ankle injury, which he picked up during on international duty in September. Reports say that Robinho’s most likely destination would be Barcelona, since his adaptation to Manchester City has been far from successful. However, Hughes has ruled out any transfers, insisting that the Brazilian forward remains a big part of his plans.

“I am quite clear and Robinho should be quite clear that his future is very much with City. There is no reason to think that will change any time soon. All those stories do not originate from anyone from City. It is people on the outside taking a view on the situation with Robinho which they have no real insight into,” Hughes said. In fact, Hughes is convinced part of the problem is Robinho’s injury. If he had been playing, discussion of his performances would have helped fill a void. Instead, the space has been filled by discussion over his future.

Barcelona willing to pay 25m euros for Robinho 7

According to Catalan sports paper, El Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will make an attempt to sign Manchester City forward, Robinho (25) , and are willing to pay up to 25 million euros. The club still believe that the ideal transfer window to complete the transfer is next summers’, and want to come to an agreement with Manchester City on an early stage. Although Robinho wishes to be bought from Barcelona and not loaned from the start, Barca prefer to loan the player first as is would be a big risk to sign him for 25 million Euros.

Barcelona believe that his market price is 25 million Euro’s for three main reasons: Firstly, it is clear that he is not essential for Barcelona. Secondly, there is no other clubs in negotiations for Robinho. And third, judging by his form since his arrival to England, 25 million might be the highest sum they can get for him, and due to the hefty price they paid, the Citizens might want to recoup as much as they can. The Brazilian is currently in his second season in the Citizens jersey after being bought from Barcelona’s arch-rivals, Real Madrid, for 40 million Euros. Robinho and Barcelona have already agreed on the terms and duration of the contract except the part where Barca wants him on loan.

Barcelona have reached agreement with Robinho 24

Barcelona and Manchester City forward Robinho (25) have agreed on a deal on Robinho’s terms and duration of a contract, according to Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo. Robinho prefers to be signed in January, while Barcelona would like to have him on loan from January before they would buy him next summer, paying his wages for the rest of the season. Indications still show that Robinho will wear Barcelona’s shirt from January.

Manchester City and Barcelona will most likely meet each other for negotiations this Wednesday. Most likely they will come to a final agreement during this meet, and sign the deal. Robinho is said to be a dispensable luxury in Manchester, and would also be desperate to join the Catalan group. This transfers seems even more likely when Bayern Munich forward Franck Ribery (26) seems to be a part of this puzzle. Ribery have been offered to Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid. It seems like Ribery would be sold to Manchester City, as Robinho’s replacement.

A Robinho loan for 3.5 million euro 17

The link between Barcelona and Robinho (25) will never die. Barcelona are supposedly ready to make a move to get Robinho on loan this winter for 3.5 million euro, and then pay Manchester City 35 million euro to buy him next summer according to Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo. Mark Hughes which was present in Pamplona to watch Barcelona and Osasuna have reportedly met both Joan Laporta and Txiki.

Robinho’s representatives have supposedly contacted Barcelona last summer to get a transfer, as they believed that Robinho had a clause that said he could leave Manchester City if they could not qualify for Champions League. Now City would allow Robinho to leave if he demands a transfer, as Hughes has some sympathy for the player that so far has only played two games for them this season due to injuries.
