Ex-Barca: 2 former Barcelona players join Italian teams on loan deals

Former FC Barcelona forward Maxi Lopez (27) has switched teams withing Italy, joining AC Milan on a loan deal until June 2012 from Catania. After alleged unsuccessful deals for the exchange of the elusive Carlos Tevez (from Man City) for forward Alexandre Pato (to PSG), the Rossoneri have added another former Barcelona player to their ranks.

The other ex-Barcelona player in the transfer news is Sevilla defender Martin Caceres (24), who shall be playing for Italian club Juventus on a loan deal till June 2012.

Reports in Spain are claiming that Sevilla are ready to go ahead and take up the purchase option they have on FC Barcelona defender Martin Caceres, after the Uruguayan completed a succesful season long loan at the Andalucian club.

According to RAC 1 in Spain, Sevilla, who qualified for next season’s Europa league, are willing to pay the 3 million euros it would take to make Caceres’ signing permanent, with the defender expected to complete his move sometime during the summer.

Italian sports paper Tuttosport claims that Juventus is ready to sign permanently Barcelona loaned-out defender, Uruguayan international Martin Caceres (22).

Caceres joined Barcelona on 4 June 2008, with a reported transfer fee of 16.5 million euros (unconfirmed) from Villarreal. A buyout clause of 50 million euros was included in the deal, which expires in June 2012. Unable to break into the starting eleven permanently, he was used sparsely by the Catalan team during his first season at Barcelona. He was only the fourth choice defender, behind the Catalan captain Carles Puyol, Rafael Marquez and Gerard Pique.

On 30 July 2009, it was announced by Barcelona that the Italian Serie A club agreed to take Caceres on loan with the option to buy him at the end of the 2009-10 season. On 12 September 2009 Cáceres scored his first goal with Juventus in his debut Serie A match against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy.

Catalan newspaper Sport today claims that Barcelona loan-out and Uruguay international Martin Caceres (22) would have been asked to carry out the man marking job on Lionel Messi in today’s crucial encounter between Argentina and Uruguay in Montevideo. It is speculated that Caceres, who can play as both left-back and centre-back would have been the logical choice on account of his familiarity with his former Barcelona team mate, whom with he had trained and played with last season.
