Keirrison: “When I heard of Fiorentina, I immediately said yes” 24

Barcelona’s Brazilian striker Keirrison (20), spoke with Fiorentina’s official website over his impending loan move and expressed his views:

“Fiorentina have always been following me ever since I was playing in Coritiba. When my agent told me that there was a possibility of joining Fiorentina, I immediately said yes because I wanted to play for those who have always valued me. For me it is the best choice possible.”

“My Idols? Pele and Romario, but the former I could only see him on TV, while Romario I could view him live. I grew up seeing his matches and trying to be like him. Romario has scored some very beautiful goals, but his specialty was his first touch. His football was simple and so is mine. My quality? When I’m in the area I try not to think much, I try to finish the move as quickly as possible. As a kid, I worked a lot with my father on my technique and aerial ability and that is the reason I am where I am today.”

New Zaragoza coach wants Keirrison 9

Portuguese sports newspaper ‘A Bola’ yesterday reported that Barcelona’s loan-out striker, Brazilian Keirrison de Souza (21) is one of the first transfer targets of new Real Zaragoza coach, Jose Aurelio Gay, to strengthen the Spanish Primera Liga side during the winter market.

Unable to break through the current forward line-up of SL Benfica – headed by Portuguese Liga top scorer Oscar Cardozo, and Javier Saviola (both of whom registering half of the club’s 38 goals tally so far), Keirrison has to further compete with veteran striker Nuno Gomez (3 goals), new summer signing Brazilian Weldon (1 goal), and even oft-injured but club favourite Mantorras.

The Blaugrana player’s fate is sealed when Benfica recently closed a deal to secure the services another Brazilian starlet, Alan Kardec, a 20-year-old striker from Vasco da Gama, while another Brazilian forward Éder Luís, could be following after Clube Atlético Mineiro confirmed they had agreed to a 2 million euros deal to sell the 24-year-old, who has travelled to Lisbon to undergo a medical.

Keirrison’s agent ruling out any Liverpool move 27

In a statement he made to sports network ESPN, Naor Malachi, the agent of Barcelona’s loaned-out striker Keirrison de Souza (21), said any move by the player to English Premier League side Liverpool is “highly unlikely” because he believes that the Brazilian player would get even fewer minutes at the Anfield club than at Benfica.

“Keirrison is having a difficult time at Benfica because (strikers) Cardozo and Saviola have been performing well. Even though he’s still young when he arrived at the club, he expected a lot more playing opportunities. I don’t think moving to Liverpool is going to change that because Liverpool is a very big club with very good strikers. The situation will just repeat itself.”

Malachi is also convinced that the player’s owner club will never agree to any such move: “Nor do I believe that Barcelona will agree to it. They want a club that can give Keirrison opportunities to play, and I have to say Liverpool is not that club.”

Liverpool willing to loan Keirrison 37

Reports in both Portugal and Brazil claim that Barcelona loan-out and Benfica forward Keirrison (21) might move to Liverpool in a six months loan deal. Barcelona’s summer move for the Brazilian disappointed Liverpool coach Rafa Benitez who had been tracking the youngster for some time and had failed with a move in the last January transfer window. Keirrison’s loan move to Benfica was supposed to allow the player to get used to the European style of play but the young Brazilian’s chances in the first team have been limited. Barcelona are reportedly unhappy at their striker’s lack of playing action at Benfica and are willing to loan him to another club in Europe or back to Brazil where several clubs are targeting the player.

Keirrison has enjoyed a prolific record in Brazilian league, where he has played with Coritiba and Palmeiras and was the best scorer in the year 2008. His record in his homeland speaks for itself so it’s of no surprise that a number of European clubs had been alerted to his talent. Despite Keirrison’s young age he has already shown just how prolific he can be. Last season alone he has scored an impressive 20 goals in just 31 league appearances, 30 from starting lineup. This is a remarkable feat since this was only his second league season after scoring 12 goals in 32 league appearances in his first campaign. Few youngsters in world football have boasted such an impressive strike rate as 37 goals in 70 league appearances.
