Last, they conceded a late goal and let the chance to secure top spot in the league slip. Not this time though. Barça B Roundup: Leaders triumph in Valencia

Barcelona B thrashed Llagostera 4-0 last week to return to winning ways, but everyone knew that last weekend’s travel to Valencia would be a different kind of ball game. A match against a direct promotion rival away from home, is basically, as hard as a task can get for any team. Yet Gerard’s Barça B negotiated their task magnificently. A repeat of last week’s scoreline, meant that the Blaugranas not only got all three points, but did so in triumphant fashion.

The Barça B Roundup: Badalona take the Mini

Over the past month or so, Barcelona B have installed themselves as favourites for one of the promotion playoff spots in Group 3 of the Segunda División B. The Blaugranas have been excellent value for the lead, but as all teams, they too can have days off. Against Badalona on Saturday, the stars seemed to conspire against Gerard López’s team. In front of the biggest crowd the Miniestadi has seen this season, the reserves huffed and puffed, but all they managed in the end was to lose 3-1 after going down 2-0 at halftime. The golden Segunda B rule was at work again: fail your chances and you shall be punished.

The Barça B Roundup: Reserves top after blockbuster win

During the international break, attention usually swings away from club football. For Barcelona B though, the weekend was not the time for switching off. Gerard López and his charges hosted Villarreal B, one of the promotion contenders this weekend, in a match the coach conceded last week would be one of the toughest for the team in the first round of the league season. The Blaugranas though, riding the wave of positivity that has been carrying them for the past two weeks, managed to sink the Yellow Submarine and take a win that installed them as the sole league leaders. To get there though, the reserves had to suffer.
