Case Closed: Joan Capdevila signs for SL Benfica

Even though there was not as strong a rumour linking Joan Capdevila to FC Barcelona as was in the case of Jose Angel, nonetheless any chance of seeing the Spain international and former Villarreal left back to the club can be out ruled as Capdevila has joined Portuguese club Benfica. The 33-year-old Catalan defender has moved to Lisbon on a two-year deal with a buy-out clause of 20 million euros. Capdevila comes in place of Fabio Coentrao, who recently joined Real Madrid. The transfer fee hasn’t yet been disclosed.

Valencia forward and Spanish International David Silva (24) will not play for Barcelona as of this season, like had been rumoured over the last months.

English Premier League club Manchester City has today officially announced the transfer of Silva. “The player’s advisers and officials from both clubs have finalised the details over a five year contract, which will bring the 24 year old to City of Manchester Stadium.”

Silva is currently in South Africa representing Spain in the World Cup. Upon the tournaments conclusion, Silva will undergo a medical before officially becoming a Manchester City player.
