Yaya: “I’m sure I’ll play in England someday” 25

In an article carried by the Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo said, FC Barcelona and Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure (26) is again fuelling rumours about his intention to leave the Catalan club even though he had just renewed his contract until June 2012.

The unsettled player’s name kept cropping up in the rumour-mills, reports and interviews since this summer transfer window because his agent, Dimitri Seluk made a mess of his contract renewal negotiations by hinting at all sorts of club-move threats when talking to the media.

Caught by a ‘Eurosport’ news gathering crew during the current African Nations Cup, Yaya gave a quick interview along with his brother, Kolo.

Toure played full 90 minutes in disappointing 0-0 opener 10

It was a quiet match for FC Barcelona’s midfielder Yaya Toure in his nation’s first match in the 2010 African Nations Cup as Cote d’Ivoire was held to a goalless draw by Group B and tournament’s minnow Burkina Faso today.

Tagged as the favourite, Cote d’Ivoire did try their best to live up to their reputation as early as the fifth minute with Yaya having the first real sight on goal after a good Gervinho’s cross from the right, but could not get his shot right.

Ten minutes after the interval, Kone was played through by the Barcelona player but the forward’s shot went wide of its mark, and missed another sitter 13 minutes later when he finished off a swift counter-attack by lashing horribly wide from six yards out following another fine cross from Gervinho.

(UPDATE) Guardiola: “We took our chances, and they didn’t” 8

(UPDATE)

Ed. This is what I can gather about the promise @ http://www.as.com/futbol/articulo/promesa-incumplida-pep-guardiola/ANCHOR/20100110dasdaiftb_44/Tes

It was 20 June 1993. Due to his injury, Pep was not able to play in the away match against Athletic Bilbao during the last matchday of the 1992-93 season, so he was assigned by the team, along with Serna and Busquets, to listen a live radio broadcast about the Tenerife vs. Real Madrid match, at the Estadio Heliodoro, which was played concurrently – a result that determined the Liga champion for that season.

That day, Barcelona lose 0-1 but so did Real Madrid 0-2, keeping the status-quo in the table thus giving Barcelona the back-to-back titles – a 58 to57 points difference. All thanks to Tenerife.

SUPER-HAPPY, SUPER-CALM

Tenerife 0 – 5 Barça

Barça thrashes Tenerife and proves who is the true La Liga leader.

Great Messi-Bojan tandem. Leo scored three goals assisted by Krkic and he is now pichichi.

Keita scored 2 goals in epic Mali comeback 24

Coming off the bench in the 34th minute to replace the injured Real Madrid’s Mahamadou Diarra, Seydou Keita was the catalyst in Mali’s 2010 African Nations Cup tournament’s opening match epic comeback fight last night.

Due to a two centimetres tear in his right thigh’s hamstring muscle he picked up during the Club World Cup Final last month, the FC Barcelona midfielder was not even expected to be able to participate in the early stages of the competition. However, with the help of the recovery program set up by the club’s medical services, Keita seemed to have recovered earlier than predicted, and crucially, still maintain his playing form.

The player was in the thick of things for Mali, especially in the second half. Before he led the comeback, Keita was guilty of conceding a penalty when he was adjudged to have brought down Angola’s Gilberto – a rather harsh decision by the referee – in the 74th minute. Manucho stepped up to convert (4-0).
