The view from our seat: Lionel Messi

The view from our seat: Lionel Messi

To those of you who watched the game against Sevilla, you witnessed history in the making. You got to watch a 27-year-old do the impossible and achieve what others only dream of. Lionel Messi is now La Liga’s all-time top scorer with  253 goals, surpassing the legendary Telmo Zarra, and we had the pleasure of watching his journey up until this moment.

What Messi does cannot be put into words. It’s not about the goals alone because seeing Leo on the pitch wearing the Barça kit ignites a warmth of its own, a feeling that only very few cúles could actually describe. We here at totalBarça would like to take a moment to appreciate having the greatest footballer player of all-time on our side, and being lucky enough to watch him do what he does best week in and week out. Because there’s only one Leo Messi.

Rewind: Win the Clásico

Rewind: Win the Clásico

When I saw Suarez and Busquets in the starting eleven, I knew that Luis Enrique was taking some risks with his approach to the match to throw Madrid off their stride. In this case, his risky formation didn’t pan out. And while some will applaud him for his ambitious tactics, others have criticized him for misunderstanding his opponent and the potential weaknesses of the team he fielded.

So, since hindsight is 20-20, what would you have done to win this match? How would you have changed the original starting 11? What substitutions would you have planned? What tactical instructions would you have given to your squad?

Go!

totalBarça is 5

totalBarça is 5

We are 5 years old today. totalBarça is 5. Yet, it feels like it has been five decades. So many things, good and bad, have happened within the last half-decade at FC Barcelona. And ultimately, at totalBarça. The site/community/blog/homebase – whatever we want to call it – still remains true to its original objectives. Namely, being a central destination for all culés to come share their joys and sorrows of FC Barcelona.

Video of the Day: Ice Bucket Challenge

FC Barcelona’s Neymar has added his voice to the “Ice Bucket Challenge” phenomenon. Two and a half weeks ago, Pete Frates, a 29 year old inflicted by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, posted this video on Facebook, which has inspired the likes of Bill Gates, Lebron James and most recently Barça’s young Brazilian to share a message and donate to the cause. If you check out Pete’s video, you’ll notice he cannot speak any longer. Lou Gehrig’s is a disease that attacks nerve cells and eventually leads to entire body paralysis, despite the mind remaining active, with a life expectancy of two to five years. The infliction itself is named after one of the most famous New York Yankee’s of all time, who on the day of retirement gave one sport’s truly inspiring speeches, calling himself the “luckiest man on the face of the earth” despite his diagnosis. He passed away two years later.

The Ice Bucket Challenge has now been shared over 1.2 million times via social media channels, in which a person posts a video of themselves dumping a bucket of ice water over their head and challenging friends to do the same or donate $100 dollars to the ALS Association. Clearly, a great deal of people have done both and deep pocket celebrities have donated a fair deal more. In fact, since Pete’s original video, the ALS Association has received $ 13.3 million in donations, versus the 1.7 million received last year over the same period. Neymar himself challenges Brazilian bud Robinho, a few others and Carlos Zúñiga.

CONTEST: The totalBarça community are all monkeys

CONTEST: The totalBarça community are all monkeys

A number of us at totalBarça have been at this project for a number of years now. Your support for our project is the single most important thing that keeps us motivated. Second most important is our community’s support for UNICEF. And it’s during instances like #weareallmonkeys that provide newly injected motivations. There are many viewpoints on the matter, but here we would like to consider this our contribution as another single step towards eradicating racism. As mentioned in our original post for this campaign: “We are all people, all humans, each of us vulnerable to the same fears and all of us capable of the same dreams.”

With that, we’d like to invite you to submit your “we are all monkeys” image. Let’s show the world how our community can come together and support this now infamous occurrence. More good news after the jump.
