Book Review: Barça – The Guardiola Years

Book Review: Barça – The Guardiola Years

Yearning for times gone by? This could be just what the doctor ordered. In FC Barcelona blogger Nic Aldam’s debut book, Barça – The Guardiola Years, one can relive the glory days under Pep Guardiola in a simple yet effective narrative. The book progresses chronologically, focusing on key matches as the story unfolds Guardiola’s historic four seasons in charge.

But the book isn’t simply a match to match summary, chapters progress with background on what was happening up to and between each match, both on and off the pitch. Nic’s writing flows easily and provides a smooth journey down memory lane of one of football’s and Barça’s greatest eras. It’s been already nearly six years since Guardiola took the helm, promising everyone that he would work hard and he would lead Barça through a great adventure. So, relive all of the best moments of those wonderful years. From the Bernabéu 6-2 exposition, Don Andrés’ unforgettable strike in London, to victory in Rome and Wembley and a few manitas too.

The book is available in both paperback and Kindle versions at Amazon.

Book Review: Fear and Loathing in La Liga

Book Review: Fear and Loathing in La Liga

If you are serious about your fandom, Sid Lowe’s Fear and Loathing in La Liga: Barcelona vs Real Madrid is a nonnegotiable must have. Sid voiced his frustration during writing the book several times over Twitter, yet now I am sure he knows it was worthwhile. Not only is the writing, as we’ve come to expect, fabulous, the real power of this book is born from the research. The depth of research is commendable but more so, it is the quality of study that stands out. The sheer amount of interviews Sid conducted is impressive and more importantly he spoke to the right protagonists. The story of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are told through the voices of those that lived it. Football books are growing in quantity and quality, but Fear and Loathing in La Liga stands tall among its peers.

Francesc Calvet: An Unsung Hero – Interview with Guillem Gómez

Catalan journalist Guillem Gómez authored Francesc Calvet, El pagés que va triomfar al Barça, a book that tells the story of Calvet, a country man who took part in the mythical team of les Cinc Copes. In addition to being a part of that legendary Barça team, Calvet was also one of the first set of players who can be considered ‘La Masia players’. Gómez took time out to discuss with totalBarça his book and a little bit of blaugrana history. At the moment, the book is published only in Catalan, but a Spanish version is set to come and there is also a possibility for the book to be released in English.
