Luis Enrique experiments with the team’s formation and sees his Barcelona overcome Leganés five to one. Lionel Messi scored a brace and had an assist while Luis Suárez had a brace of assists and scored a goal. 3-4-3 stood in and stood up for the squad’s usual 4-3-3.
Marc-André ter Stegen – 7.5
The German had good composure early on. He came out of the box and won the ball in 30th and 66th minute and made commanding stops in the 48th and 62nd. The wall let him down on the only goal conceded by him.
Samuel Umtiti – 7.5
Overall had a very strong game epically in tackles and passing. He is making a case for himself to be first choice left center back. The partnership he is forming with Gerard Piqué is beginning to be a beautiful thing to watch.
Gerard Piqué – 8.0
He had great tackles early and late in the match. Gerard started the offense early on and was able to overcome Leganés early pressure. No one can argue that this man is not only amongst but may be the best center back in game.
Javier Mascherano – 6.0
He doesn’t look as comfortable on the right side of the pitch as he does in the center or the left. Javier made a good tackle in the 33rd while promptly was beaten for pace in the 34th. A pass to Messi in the 59th almost resulted in a goal.
Jordi Alba – 6.5
Found himself a lonely figure in the formation in the first half. He grew stronger in the second with more thundering overlaps. Alba didn’t enjoy his usual freedom of movement on the left wing.
Andrés Iniesta – 7.0
Andrés ghosted through the first half and earned a yellow with a classy move in the 39th. The illusionist was withdrawn early in the second to save him for Atlético Madrid on Wednesday.
Ivan Rakitić – 6.0
A common theme for Ivan is becoming making professional fouls. He earned another yellow in the 25th. He ran and passed too little to effect early in the second half and was withdrawn.
Rafinha – 8.5
The Brazilian made the right side his playground. From this match you could make an argument for him to get an odd start at right back. Rafinha had good interplay with Messi and was strong on the pass. He scored an absolute golazo in the 64th after stealing a pass.
Neymar – 8.5
This man is electric on the pitch. He scored a tap-in in the 44th, earned a penalty in the 54th and drew a yellow with samba flair in the 87th. It is unfair to say he is just part of a trio.
Luis Suárez – 8.5
He is so strong on the ball. He had one great assist and one easy one. Luis walked the ball into the net in the 31st after a Messi pass. His ball led to the Neymar penalty and overall was unyielding in his passing game.
Lionel Messi – 9.0
Man of the match performance from Messi. He scored an easy goal in the 15th. Leo won the ball and a made a strong run on the easy assist for the Luis Suárez goal. Also scored a stinger on the Neymar penalty. He is unplayable with his range of passing movement and absolute unwillingness to lose the ball.
Paco Alcácer – 5.5
Paco almost scored a great first goal for the club but was inches offside. He struggled to get into the flow of the game and was muscled around by the opposing defense, he might need the best foam roller after that. He needs a goal to up his confidence.
Arda Turan – 6.0
Arda was tidy on the pitch for the small time he was on. Both strong on the pass and imposing on the ball Arda is continuing his strong early season start. One blotch on his record was that he gave up the foul that led to the free kick goal.
Denis Suárez – 6.0
Drifted outside to occupy the right wing position allowing Rafinha to move inside with more freedom.
MSN dominated the match and Rafinha scored a stunner. Who were your favorites?
