FC Barcelona has played three games during a papal conclave, and they have won every game 4-0.
Barcelona fans wanted to believe in the comeback of their team in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League against AC Milan and everyone tried to be optimistic. In this search for precedents that would encourage us even more to believe in a comeback, culé @LaLigaendirecto unveiled an omen for Barcelona: the two previous times when the Catalan side played on the day of a papal conclave they won 4-0. The first happened in 1958, when on October 26 Barcelona beat Real Madrid 4-0. That conclave started the day before El Clasico and ended two days later on October 28, after eleven voting rounds. Angelo Roncalli, Patriarch of Venice, was elected and took the name John XXIII for his pontificate. The second was in October 1978. The conclave began on October 14 and ended two days later, after eight rounds. The cardinals elected Cardinal Karol Wojtyla, who took the name John Paul II. Barcelona won 4-0 against Las Palmas on the opening day of that conclave. Later, Pope John Paul II received a lifelong Barcelona membership card – No 108,000 – which he was given after performing mass at the Camp Nou stadium, in front of 120,000 people, in November 1982.
