Thirty-three years ago on this day, an FC Barcelona legend was born. Celebrating his birthday today, January 25th, midfielder Xavi Hernández rose through La Masia to become the player with the most first team appearances in Club history. Xavi’s brilliance has aided both Barça and Spain to numerous trophies over the years, most notably three Champions League titles, six La Liga crowns, one World Cup and two European Championships. The accumulation of club appearances (and hopefully awards) looks set to continue as Xavi will sign a two year contract extension this coming Monday, binding him to FC Barcelona through 2016.
totalBarça wishes this very special midfield maestro many happy returns of the day; we hope he has an injury-free, trophy-laden year ahead.
