The European Lung Foundation (ELF), in partnership with the European Respiratory Society (ERS), awarded FC Barcelona with its 2013 award. The club was honored with this title due to its “Quit Smoking with Barça” campaign and the resultant effect on improving the health of the public’s lungs. With over 70,000 registered persons with the initiative, the ERS cited the power a club and public institution of FC Barcelona’s size carry.
Jordi Monés, a member of the club’s medical staff, was in attendance to receive the award. He noted that this project was part of living the més que un club slogan. “We are overjoyed to have collaborated with the European Commission in such an important theme of public health and we are honored to be here to collect the ELF award.”
