Luis Enrique (43), a former Barça player as well as former coach of Barça B and Roma, will be the new coach of Celta de Vigo as of next season. After the club announced that coach Abel Resino would part ways with the club, the search for a new coach commenced in which the Asturian was finally selected. The agreement between the club and the manager is total and the only thing left is for Luis Enrique to decide who will form his technical staff. Celta’s official website has already announced the signing, which will be for two seasons.
Celta de Vigo had first announced Abel Resino’s departure on Saturday. With Resino in charge the team fulfilled its goal of staying in the Primera Division. The former coach’s contract originally was set to last until June 30th of 2014.
President of the club Carlos Mouriño, in the club’s statement on the website, stated that “after completing the goal for the recently ended season, the agreement reached is the best for both manager and club when discussing the difference in the club’s philosophy“. In the same announcement, the club from Galicia expressed their “most sincere thanks” to Resino for the work the trainer had done since his arrival at Balaídos, achieving the goal of keeping Celta in the Liga BBVA during the last round of the season.
Today, the club officially announced the signing of Luis Enrique for the next two seasons, and Lucho also addressed it on his personal twitter account.
