The first preseason game for the 2013-14 season has been announced. FC Barcelona will play a friendly match at the Allianz Arena in Munich against Bayern Munich, on Wednesday, the 24th of July. Both clubs began discussing the possibility of a match months ago, and on Wednesday the game was officially announced during the ECA General Assembly (European Club Association), currently meeting in Doha, Qatar. The match will be a friendly for charity, therefore all of the proceeds generated by the match will go to social programs.
The game will be called the ‘Uli Hoeness Cup’ and and will honor and serve as a deferred farewell for his time as a player. Uli Hoeness is currently the president of the German club.
The two teams last met in a preseason friendly in 2011, as part of the ‘Audi Cup’. Barça won the match 0-2 with two goals by Thiago. On that occasion, Pep Guardiola was on Barça’s bench, while for the upcoming friendly, he will be in charge of the Bavarian side.
