FC Barcelona’s youth academy has accroding to Sport reportedly signed its latest prospect in the form of Paulo Henrique Pereira Sena. This 14 year old Brazilian hails from the “City of God” (Ciudad de Deus), one of the biggest favelas in Rio de Janeiro.
The story goes he has trained at the “Zico 10” academy, a government funded social development project that accommodates 3,500 youngsters between the ages of 7 and 17. The news of his contract agreement was broken by the Brazilian government officials in charge of the academy. It has been reported that Sena will remain in Brazil for the next 6 months at the Xerem academy where he will receive specialized attention from various psychologists and coaches. Then he will move to Barcelona and join the youth teams at La Masia.
Note, the FC Barcelona themselves are yet to officially confirm this story and some uncertainty does exist.
These sorts of signings occur in bucket loads in professional football and the vast majorities are not the Cinderella stories like Lionel Messi. Either way however, the education Sena may receive at La Masia, both in terms of academics and character, will inevitably change his life for the good.
