According to British newspaper Mirror.co.uk, FC Barcelona as well as arch-rivals Real Madrid are competing with Manchester City for the acquisition of Danish national team captain and Liverfool FC central defender Daniel Agger (27).
With rumours of the transfer of Bilbao’s Javi Martinez (23) to FC Barcelona subsiding temporarily, another name is being discussed as a possibility to fill in the defensive unit of the Catalan club – Daniel Agger.
The newspaper Mirror has in the recent past not exactly proven to be a very reliable source but their sources claim that cash-laden Manchester City have put in a £13million bid for Agger . The defender, meanwhile, has allegedly informed Brendan Rogers, the Liverpool boss that he would like to leave for pastures anew. Manchester City are keen to replace aging defender Kolo Toure with the Dane but City might find it difficult to find suitors for the Ivorian because of his high wage demands.
Daniel Agger has also reportedly drawn interest from Spain in the form of FC Barcelona, who might be looking to strengthen their central defense as well as Real Madrid who are always looking to add to their ranks. A bid in the excess of £15 million from FC Barcelona may convince Liverpool to part with Agger.
Agger’s wikipedia page suggests that he is : “a fine reader of the game, comfortable on the ball and blessed with a ferocious shot.” In 165 total appearances for Liverpool between 2004 and 2012, Agger has scored 8 goals and assisted 9.
