Youth Round-up: Juvenil A lose the League
This has been mostly a good week for FC Barcelona’s cantera, with no team losing a single game. Nevertheless, the oldest youth side, Juvenil A (U19s), drew their game and ended up losing the league to direct rivals Espanyol. In general the youth teams earned 13 victories and 3 draws this past weekend.
The Prebenjamin side is extremely close to being proclaimed champions of their league. If they win their next game against Sants locally, they will officially be handed the title of the Tercera Division Benjamin.
Four Cadete A players debuted with Juvenil B this weekend: Sergi Palencia, Lionel Enguene, Sergio Buenacasa, Juanan Entrena.
We start with brief reports regarding each team. . . .
JUVENIL A
DIVISION DE HONOR JUVENIL
CF BADALONA 1 – FC BARCELONA A 1
Juvenil A were playing for the league title this past weekend in Badalona, one of the few teams they hadn’t beaten this year. Despite being leaders they needed a win to be proclaimed champions. Unfortunately they tied and Espanyol won the league after winning 3-0 against Damm. Oscar Garcia’s men dominated the game, but without much sharpness in the attack. Nando scored from a penalty and set the team up by 0-1. But Garrido in the 63th minute, only three minutes after Barça’s goal, tied the result. Barça then tried very hard to score but were unsuccessful, with the best chances coming from Pol Calvet and Miguel Angel, who hit the post in the 84th minute. The game ended emotionally with a tie.
JUVENIL B
LIGA NACIONAL JUVENIL
DAMM 0 – FC BARCELONA B 2
Barca won this game by 0-2 and they were the superior side. Damm, a team who always gives the azulgranas a hard time, couldn’t keep up with Juvenil B’s great football. The game effectively ended in the first half with Enguene’s two goals, on his debut with the team. At the beginning of the second half it seemed that Damm were trying to get back into the game by generating many occasions, but the azulgranas held the control and didn’t let Damm get near their net. Because of the absences due to the call ups to the Juvenil A side, 4 Cadete A players were called up to Juvenil B: Enguene, Juanan, Sergi Palencia and Sergio Buenacasa. All four made their debut in this game with Garcia Pimienta and Marc Guitart’s team. The barcelonistas with another victory are now sole leaders of the Liga Nacional Juvenil. The team is currently in Moscow for a tournament that started on April 17th.
CADETE A
LIGA DIVISIÓN DE HONOR CADETE
TARRAGONA 1 – FC BARCELONA A 1
Gimnastic de Tarragona tried hard against Quique Álvarez and Ramon Ros’ lads and managed a result. The azulgranas played well in a hard game, against a good team, and the scoreline ended equal between the two sides. Sanabria put his team in front in the 13th minute, but minutes later Pau Almarcha, from the local team, tied the game again. During the second half Nastic had a good number of chances and so did Barça, who defended well but failed to score again. Despite the draw, Cadete A are still leaders of their league, alone at the top with 63 points.
CADETE B
LIGA PREFERENTE CADETE
FC BARCELONA B 3 – CAMBRILS UNIÓ A 1
Cadete B recovered from last week’s draw at Floresta’s grounds with an offensive exhibition against Cambrils Unió. Fran Artiga and Andres Martin’s army had plenty of occasions during the first 45 minutes, until Alexis Meva opened the scoring with a free kick in the final minutes of the first half. In the second half, Barça’s offensive dominance was still on display, however the visitors tied the score. This didn’t last long though. Marc Rio scored four minutes later, and Alexis Meva sentenced the game with a second goal. Cadete B continues as leaders of their league.
INFANTIL B
LIGA 1a DIVISIÓN INFANTIL
FC BARCELONA B 4 – BADALONA 0
Denis Silva and Carlos Lopez’s young men won this week against the leader of their league, which helped them recover from last week’s loss against Mataró, second place in the league. The azulgranas took control over Badalona thanks to their scoring efficiency. Bobby added his name to the scoreboard in the 5th minute with a shot after an assist from Oscar, and Cruz scored the 2nd in the last minute of the first half after Valery’s cross. After the break, Infantil B had many chances but the goals had to wait. In the final minutes, Iker and Mboula ended the game with two goals.
