Youth Round-Up: First Edition

Welcome to totalBarça’s new feature where we will present a variety of youth news coverage in one article, along with highlights and pictures to keep you up to date on everything related to FC Barcelona’s youth teams.

Let’s begin with the Juvenil A game which took place this week against San Franciso and which they won 2-0. Barça are now leading their league – Group 3 of the Division De Honor Juvenil – against direct competitors Espanyol, who tied this week with Mallorca allowing the blaugrana to take the lead in the table. If they win the league, Juvenil A will enter the next stage of the competition, the Copa de Campeones, in which the champions of all the regional youth leagues compete in a knock-out format for the ultimate title among the Spanish youth teams.

In their game against San Francisco, Juvenil A dominated almost the entire match and scored both goals before halftime. The first goal scorer was Pol Calvet, who made the most of a great assist from Miguel Angel following an attack started by Ernesto in the 28th minute. The second goal came from Brian, who scored after a canon shot from distance. The line-up Barca used was: Miguel Bañuz, Bakoyock, Brian, Bagnack, Ayala, Quesada, Ernesto (Cristian, min 67), Pol Calvet (Patri, min 61), Àlex Moreno, Miguel Ángel (Babunski, min 75) and Quintillà (Adama, min 82).

The next game will be played on Tuesday the 3rd of April against Cornella, while Espanyol play against Mataro. If both sides win, then the position of leader will be fought for directly in their coming game at the blaugrana grounds.

Moving on, there were a number of Barcelona players who featured for Spain’s Under 17 side in their quest for Euro U-17 qualification. These players are Sergi Samper, Alejandro Grimaldo and ex-Barca Hector Bellerin, who currently plays for Arsenal. The squad drew their first game against Ukraine, finishing 2-2. They had to beat England and hope that Georgia would lose to the Ukraine in order to qualify. Spain did their part, thrashing England 4-0 with Barca players Samper and Grimaldo on the scoreboard. Nevertheless, Spain didn’t qualify for the Euros as Georgia won against the Ukraine.

Also on the international sector, FC Barcelona B player Gerard Deulofeu had a great game for Spain’s U-19, beating Montenegro 3-0. Deulofeu had a goal and an assist for Spain.

Next up is a video of a game played between FC Barcelona Infantil A (U14s) and Arsenal:

The Infantil A side will play another game against Fulham soon as part of a tournament they are currently participating in. There will be more information on that in the next post.

And to end with another video, this is a friendly between Juvenil A and Bayer Leverkusen which took place last Wednesday. The game ended tied at one goal apiece.
