Where would you play the Copa final?

Controversy is brewing in Spain about where the 2012 final of the Copa del Rey will be played. With the finalists now decided, the task of the Spanish Federation is to designate a neutral venue that has the capacity for all the fans the match would attract. Naturally, with Madrid out of the running this year, the Santiago Bernabéu was on the shortlist of possible venues, and the prospect of a match in Madrid for the King’s Cup final featuring teams from the Basque country and Catalonia was mouthwatering to some.

That option appears to have been removed from consideration on Thursday due to “security concerns” according to some reports. Marca went on to suggest that the only two realistic options are either the Mestalla in Valencia, or the Camp Nou in Barcelona itself, both large venues in relative geographic proximity to Bilbao.

This issue will apparently be decided in a meeting next Monday between representatives of Barcelona, Bilbao and the Spanish football Federation. Where would you want to see the final played?

I just assumed that if Valencia moved on to the final, it would probably be in the Camp Nou, and if Barcelona moved on, it would be at the Mestalla. I know that's where it was last year, but I don't really see a problem with that.

Winning a trophy at the Bernabeu would be nice and all, but playing there might be a bit unfair to Athletic, since in the past few years Barca have played many more games there than they have. :-P

On a more serious note, I think that the Mestalla would be a friendlier and more neutral ground for two great teams with such pride in their roots than the Bernabeu. Barca are so strongly Catalan and Athletic are so strongly Basque that in some ways, it feels wrong to me to have the final in the Spanish capital, especially where Real Madrid play. Real Madrid have nothing to do with this final, and I would like to keep it that way, not continue to keep the attention on them.

can't we just play it in the olympic stadium in barcelona?

it's neutral, it's big (mestalla size), and it has the history.

    • Well it have tracks, making the public far away from the pitch, not so good for the a atmosphere… But Espanyols stadium Cornella El Prat would be perfect, amazing stadium, although it's located in Barcelona, not fair to Bilbao in my opinion..

Doesn't matter, its a silly discussion.

Only thing I am worried about is when the Final is, i think its too close to the UCL final, UCL final this year is early on May 19 and this is going to mess up schedule for us, if we reach UCL final.

WHY NOT AT THE VICENTE CALDERON? IT HAS EVEN MORE CAPACITY THAN THE MESTALLA
