Training at the Estádio da Luz

Seven seasons after the team’s last visit to the Estádio da Luz, FC Barcelona’s first team returns to the stadium where the blaugrana club has never won an official match. A total of 21 footballers trained this afternoon, including Iniesta, Puyol, and Adriano, who were medically cleared to play as of Sunday.

Iniesta is one of the five remaining Barça players who made the trip in 2006 under coach Frank Rijkaard, in what was the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League. In that match, which ended 0-0, Valdés and Iniesta were starters while Xavi and Messi sat out injured, and Puyol was suspended and didn’t travel.
