Tito Vilanova: “I prefer a tough preseason”
After the game against Paris Saint-Germain, Tito Vilanova shared his thoughts about the clash, the preseason, and some important events that have occurred so far, such as the return of captain Carles Puyol.
According to Barça’s official website, Tito said regarding the preseason’s rhythm that “I prefer a tough preseason, so that we quickly get up to the level we need to be at.”
Tito explained that “what we wanted from this game was that the players get get back up to match fitness and I gave them time on the pitch according to how much time they’d got in in training. Messi played the whole game because he felt good – our aim had been to give him as long as possible and he felt good and wanted to finish the game.”
Tito Vilanova was especially happy about Carles Puyol’s comeback after his injury. Speaking about Puyol’s performance in training, Tito said, “he has been doing great in training. He looked good and was up to the pace.”
Finally, he explained how significant it was for the Club to have Abidal present in Paris: “it was very important for us. It’s great for the players to see he is improving. It really comforted us. He is the joy of the dressing room,” added Tito.
On another subject, Tito apparently had certain words about the very much rumored interest of Barça in Brazilian forward Neymar. According to several media sources, Tito said Neymar was brought to light by the press, not him, which can be read (if one wants to) as a lack of interest from Vilanova in signing the young player from Santos.
