There was good news awaiting FC Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcántara following training on Thursday. Three months after being diagnosed with swelling in his right tibia, which caused him to miss Barça’s preseason and the Olympic Games in London, Thiago has received his medical clearance.
Dani Alves, who was dropped from the squad at the last minute at the Santiago Bernabéu, underwent various medical tests this Thursday. While a muscular injury was ruled out, swelling in his left thigh was detected. The progress of the player’s recovery will determine his availability for Sunday’s Liga match at the Camp Nou against Valencia.
Alves, along with Puyol, did specific recovery work at the gym during the Thursday afternoon training session, while the rest of the team held a joint session on pitch no. 4 of the Ciutat Esportiva with Barça B. The starters against Madrid in the Super Cup held a more gentle session, with Alba and Pedro working in the gym.
The team will hold its next training session on Saturday morning at 10. Afterwards, Tito Vilanova will speak at a press conference.
