The Ratings: Real Betis vs FC Barcelona
In the last league game of the Pep Guardiola era, FC Barcelona couldn’t do better than an away draw against Betis, with a last minute equalizer from Seydou Keita. In a game marred by Daniel Alves’ sending off, Barcelona completely lost focus and control after half-time and were lucky to get a point in Sevilla.
Here are the ratings for today’s match.
Victor Valdés – 7
Can’t be blamed for either goal and made some solid saves, especially in the second half with the team down to 10. Secured his fifth Zamora Trophy for the least beaten goalkeeper in La Liga.
Adriano – 6
Wasn’t much of a threat in attack (bar a great shot that drew an equally great save from the Betis keeper) and struggled to deal with Betis’s pacy wingers, which led to the second Betis goal.
Gerard Piqué – 7
Could have done better in Betis’s second goal, but had a very solid performance apart from that, commanding the backline and providing some stability to a defense that was mostly shaky tonight.
Javier Mascherano – 6.5
Was one of the best players on the pitch during the 90 minutes with his trademark impeccable tackles, but his performance is marred by the fact that he was partially responsible for both Betis’s goals. His eagerness to press left gaps for Betis’s forwards to exploit and score.
Daniel Alves – 3
Jeopardized the team’s chances of a victory with a reckless and absolutely unnecessary red card in the beginning of the second half. Wasn’t doing much before that either.
Sergio Busquets – 8
The best player on the pitch today. Broke up play and sprayed quality passes around in midfield as usual and scored the opening goal with a great header from a Xavi corner. Also helped tremendously at the back after Barca went down to 10 men.
Xavi Hernandez – 6.5
Had a good first half, including an assist for Busquets’s goal, but faded as the match went on, especially after the team went down to 10 men, and ended up being replaced by Iniesta.
Seydou Keita – 7
Had a decent performance, without being brilliant by any means, but saved the day with a wonderful headed goal in added time.
Ibrahim Afellay – 7
Had a good game today, especially considering what he has been through. Showed some great touches and looked threatening every time he had the ball. Can still obviously do much better.
Pedro Rodriguez – 6
Not much a factor today; not only was he not particularly dangerous, his pressing wasn’t as energetic as usual either.
Lionel Messi – 7
Was very far from his best and wasn’t very involved in the game overall, but still created a few chances for his teammates and was unlucky not to score when his free kick hit the post.
Substitutes:
Martin Montoya – 7.5
Brilliantly filled in for Alves, performing his defensive duties to perfection and sending a fantastic cross for Keita’s equalizer.
Andrés Iniesta – 7
Didn’t impress much today, but still showed some great touches and brought some needed calm and assurance to the team’s midfield.
Christian Tello – N/A
Didn’t play long enough to make a significant impact.
