whoever we buy won't be a regular starter for a very long time. They'll be a back up, I guarantee it. Botia was excellent against ronaldo when he was in Sporting. Just because he doesn't have a name like Hummels or Silva or another big name, it doens't make him a dramatic drop in quality

Silva and Iniesta come closest, but they are still both naturally CAMs that like to pass all day. Silva still does quite a bit of backwards passing, although when he and Iniesta link up, it is pure magic. All that I'm saying is that with so many players of this variety, technical passing midfielders, Spain might become easy to defend against for better opposition than Ireland. Then VdB tries to play 6 midfielders and 0 strikers? Sorry, that's too much, especially without a Messi. All I am saying is that I think Spain would become at least 3x more dangerous if they dropped Alonso for Cesc/Pedro/Navas, played Torres or Llorente at CF, and used the RW more often.

at least they have silva+iniesta who are willing to attack defenders and shoot (esp silva). You guys are completely biased to not even mention silva.

They do like the "Messi" kinda guy to make it happen. Iniesta is the one who usually tries to do that. He's no Messi but he's been pretty damn impressive.

The question is, do all these passes matter? Yes, they look all important and cool when they are breaking records, but in actual games do they achieve anything? Against Ireland they did, just because Ireland's defending and midfield play were pretty poor. But against teams that have very tight defenses, Spain seem to want to pass the ball between Xavi, Xabi, and Busquets all day long to no avail. The difference between Spain and Barca is that Barca has Messi, who picks up the slack and drives directly for goal with dribbles or passes when everyone else is out of ideas. Meanwhile Spain just has millions of center midfielders that play slowly. I still don't know if they can function without a striker. I really want to see Pedro/Navas and Llorente (or torres, now, i guess) get more starts, because THEY would help against parked buses more. Spain MUST drop either Xavi, Busquets or Xabi Alonso. I pick Alonso because he is the least good at tiki taka among the three.

If we are willing to spend a lot of money, Hummels for sure, no question (waaay better for us than Silva). If we want to keep it cheap, buy Vertonghen and buy back Botia. I would rather see Martinez stay at Bilbao (we don't need him anyway), I don't want to see us shell out ridiculous money for old Thiago Silva, and David Luiz is inconsistent and questionable.

I think backup position should be used for young players from Barca B. We need a really good CB and LB, not a backup. Of course, Mascherano is very good as CB; but sometimes, we need a high and solid CB too. How can you defend against some guy like Dzeko in a corner kick?

Yes, we have Pique, but he's not always available (red card, injured) and is not consistency, too. His form has dropped dramatically (some improvement but not enough yet)

Botia? Everyone seems to have forgotten about him. He's a solid backup, would be 3M and he's from La Masia. I think so many foreign names are being brought up, it's not conceivable that we spend that much towards one of those star names

There is haters in all walks of life! We have religion, politics and beliefs to name a few where you will find haters!! For me a 25+ years of watching football and witnessing some very good football in my years, I can honestly say 'hand on my heart' I have NEVER seen a team as good as FCB in my entire life!!

we are looking for glasses, which ones we wear all ready, we have world class CB's, pique, puy and mash. so we need CB with less ambition, to have him as backup for them.
