Is this for all competitions, or just the la liga?

• MoreThanWords says:

In La Liga alone, the record is even more astonishing.

We've only lost one league game in which Messi has scored — a 3-4 defeat to Atletico Madrid a few seasons ago.

2. lumos says:

4-3-3 vs 3-4-3?

3. Da Real Deal says:

more away goals are needed form Messi!!! he scores almost every game he plays at Camp Nou but he could improve on his scoring tally away from home.

• jessica says:

Messi's poor away scoring form has something to do with Xavi's presence in the starting eleven. The best proof is the Malaga away game, the only away game in which Xavi didn't play, and Messi scored three brilliant goals. Before that game, Messi only has 1 away goal in the league ALL SEASON. The other two games (Mallorca home, Victoria Plzen away) in which Xavi didn't play, Messi also scored hattricks. The proofs are there for you guys to see. The problem is XAVI!

• meeeee says:

or its just your brain????!

• Barcafan-bangladesh says:

I totally disagree. Messi has scored hat-tricks against atletico madrid and osasuna when he and xavi played together. btw i can't understand the objective or summary of this article. please someone explain it to me. thanks in advance. http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2012/0

• jessica says:

Atletico and Osasuna were home games. Let's just talk only about our away games. Don't you find it strange that the Malaga game is the only away game that we played well and win convincingly? it is no coincidence. Xavi is indeed the problem. When Xavi doesn't play, Messi gets to play the playmaker role. Messi gets a lot more of the ball and are more free to do whatever he wants without having to go through Xavi like he normally does. Our passing especially the one-twos becomes a lot quicker too and it's easier to break down the defence.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyqaKe9sR5k&fe… (Xavi – 132 Assists for FC Barcelona (2001-2011))
Just take a look at this video and see the description. it says xavi has assisted messi 25 times in his career. that's more than any other player he has assisted and it makes up 18.9% of his assists. so this proves that xavi and messi have great chemistry between them and should always play together.

• jessica says:

You ain't even commenting about what I said. It's not about the assists. Well, if you wanna talk about the assists, when was the last time you saw Xavi gave an assist to Messi. If memory serves me right, the last time was against Betis in the copa LAST SEASON. Only one assist in one WHOLE YEAR. Can you believe that! Times have changed, so has one's attitude (ego).

• Barcafan-bangladesh says:

No offense, but are you blind or something. how can you forget xavi's magical control and assist for messi's first goal in the cwc final against santos just over a month ago. also just take a look at this video where you can see in three of the 5 passes xavi makes, he does a magisterial through pass to alves who squares it to messi for a tap-in goal. there was countless times in the past that xavi has done this and he doesn't get the assist despite his obvious contribution to the goal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUPX7wDo6_Y&fe… (xavi top 5 key passes)
Lastly do you SERIOUSLY think that xavi has an ego problem towards messi. Xavi is the last person to hold an EGO over anybody. i hope you stop blaming our maestro when messi doesn't score.

• fotobirajesh says:

I have to agree with you in some ways here. The Malaga game, almost all the time Messi got the ball around or after the c.circle, you could see him turning around and running forwards or making forward passes. And I think that game was one of our best attacking game, in the recent weeks.
Compared with that, when Xavi is there, Messi doesnt take the responsibility of creating everything and most of the time tries to give the ball back to Xavi to decide on what to do.

Having said that I would never say Xavi has a problem with Messi.

• Da Real Deal says:

I think the biggest problem is playing the hopeless Fabregas as the centre forward. It's a role that should be occupied by Messi or players like Sanchez or Villa but definitely NOT Fabregas.

• kunal says:

fabregas is eating the space created for lionel messi.so leo does not score in the away games.During the match against malaga fabregas did not play thats why leo scored a hat trick

• Barcaholic says:

more away goals needed from everyone and better away performance by everyone!!!

4. FCB die hard fans says:

i already known that.. if messi didnt in the best form barca might be draw o loss.

5. andres_taufeeq says:

We need other players to step up and scoring. Not Messi only. Too much Messi-dependent make opposition can read the game. Thats why I miss Villa so much. :'(

6. fotobirajesh says:

Recently, Messi is always taken care of by 2 or more players. He is also hard tackled and fouled and kicked at the most. Inspite of this, Messi tries his best to continue with his runs, and the ref wont call a kick.

7. jam256 says:

some thoughts :
i do miss having the option of villa on the bench..
but truth be told.. villa's role in the national team is more suited to him. his strength is taking a first touch and shooting, with either foot.
his passing game hadn't really been up to standard, and it was holding barca back a bit.

i agree that we are too Messi dependent.

Pep's next move? If you recall, messi was brought into a false 9 role because Pep wanted him to drop deep, and be more central, and have the ball at his feet more often. I think Pep needs to do something similar with Don Andres. After Messi, Iniesta is the best with the ball at his feet. i feel he needs to play in the "cesc" role. And im not just saying this because Cesc himself has had a bad run of games in his cesc role. Its because iniesta has the quality to pull it off every game every 4 days.

• Barcaholic says:

totally agree and wise said man! And I would go even further that TELLO is THE man for the left wing! He is just awesome! And that not just since yesterday!!!

TELLO FOR LEFT WING!!!!

• jam256 says:

I said thiago on the left because not too long ago i saw him play out wide and was decent.. however both tello and cuenca seem to have tremendous talent beating players and putting in crosses. I suppose the hunger is also there to cement a first team spot. but ultimately the key is to have iniesta and messi centralized.. our best players on the ball, best at subtle one two's, delicate chips, extraordinary vision. imagine how the two of them playing f 9 and 10 could wreak havoc

• TNCS says:

But doing so also lock the chances for Messi to scores more. To be honest, for me, that how the Argentina went down in 08 WC. There can be only 1 'star-player' for any team and any type of sports. Utilize him wisely. No point on filling other shoes just because there're nobody else on the team that can. Do you want to release 100% of a players potential and stay compromise 80% for the team, or bring 90% for the team and drop a players capabilities down to 75%?

8. SoccerBoy says:

for now our only finisher…..

9. jam256 says:

<img src="http://i.imgur.com/aFHQP.png" />

Iniesta in cesc's role and thiago on the left. cesc should slowly take over xavi's role until xavi retires

10. Barcaholic says:

This stat is even more proof that we depend WAY to much on messi. What about the times where Messi, Eto'o and Henry EACH scored 20 goals and more? What about the times where Pedro, Messi and Ibra scored EACH more than 20 goals? It's a shame what has become of our frontline. Messi the saviour here, Messi the Saviour there…Of course he its the best player in the world…by far! No doubt about that. But I wish the others on the wings would do a bit…only a bit like him. And in my opinion part of it is Pep's fault because he is playing to complicated up front. Pep: Get back to the roots of your success and let the players play on their natural positions! Please! It's no joy to watch that!

• Barcafan-bangladesh says:

don't forget that in seasons 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 our attacking tridents were hardly EVER injured. and in this season, our attacking trident was injured countless times resulting in messi (who thank god, hasn't been injured yet) to score the bulk of goals.

11. Barca Bosnia says:

Main problem is injuries od Villa and Pedro. Last season they score a lot of goals, they were 2nd and 3rd strikers. We need that sort of player in the squad. Fabregas and Alexis are very good players, but they are not pure strikers. Pedro scored in every of 6 finals 2 season ago.

12. this begs the question: what happens to Barca when Messi is gone or when he sustains a long-term injury????

13. VarunMe says:

Another fun fact,
When Iniesta scores, that team NEVER loses, like EVER
(true for both Spain and Barca so far, he has draws but never lost)

14. cruyffish says:

Well…I guess we can say for sure if we're too dependent on Messi then Messi 'is nothing without Xavi and Iniesta' can be officially thrown into the garbage bin of bad theories.

15. sss says:

lots of fans will not like this fact…..but Barca is really dependant on Messi nearly like Barca is nothin without Messi, or like Xavi Iniesta is nothin without Messi……….I'm Barca fan, like all of Barca players not only Messi, but it is the fact you can denied
