Pep Guardiola had to remind all of us in Sunday night’s press conference that the season is still young and full of possibilities. However, Barcelona’s record in 2011-12, especially in away matches, is a cause of concern. With 17 games played, the squad has now dropped as many points away from the Camp Nou as they did in the entire 2010-11 campaign. This record, 13 points from a possible 24, is the worst away form the club has seen since 2007 under Dutch coach Frank Rijkaard. To put this more generally into perspective, the team has 38 points so far this season, compared with 46 points at the same juncture last year [43 points in 2010 and 44 points in 2009].
