After an exhibition this Wednesday at the Camp Nou against Bayer Leverkusen (7-1), FC Barcelona’s first team returned to work with a training session held this Thursday morning on pitch no. 2 of the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. As is typical following a game, the starters against Bayer had a gentler session to help them recover after the match. The rest of the squad, along with Tello, Muniesa, Sergi Roberto, Bartra, Montoya, and Dos Santos of Barça B, held a more intense session. The aim is to have all the players ready to begin preparing for Sunday’s Liga match against Racing Santander (18:00).
Two of the injured players, Alexis and Puyol, worked on the grass of the training pitch as they continue with their respective recooperation work.
Today’s training session involved two special visits. The first was by American gridiron football player Justin Tuck, who watched Thursday’s training session having spent the last few days in Barcelona attending the Global Sports Forum. Tuck, Super Bowl Champion with the New York Giants, had also attended Wednesday’s match at the Camp Nou and wanted to meet the first team players. After taking in the five goals from Messi, Tuck greeted the Argentine with a reverential bow.
Víctor Valdés, a big fan of American gridiron football, exchanged jerseys with the New York Giants defender, who has two Super Bowl honours to his name.
The second group of visitors was arranged by the Fundació FC Barcelona and Fretanissô, as Keita met with a group of twelve Malian infants who have been adopted by Catalan families. The little boys and girls, ranging from one to five years old, visited the Ciutat Esportiva with their parents and posed with the midfielder. Keita was able to spend some time with them, hand out some Barça related presents and sign autographs.
