Quote of the Day: Novak Djokovic on Lionel Messi

Quote of the Day: Novak Djokovic on Lionel Messi

“Messi is the best player on the planet and he keeps on improving at Barça, now the best team in the world. What Messi does on and off the pitch is an inspiration for children who dream of becoming a footballer.”

- Tennis world no. 1 Novak Djokovic (Serbia), when speaking with Sport.es

  3. smirky says:

it always feels good when people recognize that Messi is not only the best player, but also that his humility and commitment to helping people make him a really incredible role model. not just for children, either. i'm sure many adults respect and admire him, and are inspired by his spirit and actions.

Very classy comment from Djokovic. my absolute favorite tennis player.

    • kutaytaskin says:

I'd love it if he did a sarcastic impression of Mou or CR in one if his charity matches in Barcelona…

  5. MVPFan says:

Now I like Novak even more (if that's possible). The only people who fail to realise the importance of Leo are the argentines, they're unbelievably lucky that he chose to play for their national team, yet they criticize him every chance they get. It really pains him to see him playing for Argentina because you can clearly see that he's doing everything can to make them proud, he sacrifices goals and glory for team play, still they refuse to see that.
We culés know how lucky we are to have him though and we'll always be proud to have seen him play.

Awesome comment from a fellow athlete.

    OFF TOPIC:
I am annoyed by the lack of pushback from the club on RM. Barca's image has been tarnished unfairly and even more concerning referees are not making valid calls.

I want the club's supporters to use social media to fight back. Allas prepares some awesome videos. A compilation of RM's greatest violations would be great. And if we could all forward this. We can also have a Facebook petition. In addition, if fans have contacts with the media, we can leverage them for a fan based initiative independent of the club.

RM has annoyed me for the last time. I am ready to fight back. If you agree please let me know and we can discuss off-line.

    • MVPFan says:

I agree, I wonder if we can sign a petition and send it to the spanish federation or something.

    • serko says:

i'm for this, BUT it has to be a fair representation then. Don't put half-assed fouls in there. And i always think it's good to show your own mistakes, i do agree sometimes Busquets and Alvez pretend to be hurt more than they are, and i do realize why, because apparantly referees do not consider a foul a foul unless someone looks like they are dying sometimes. And it has cost barca a lot because they were too nice in the past and everybody abused it by fouling them a lot.

But showing their really bad fouls, and showing how much bad calls we've had to suffer, especially wrongfully called off-sides like 5-6 one-on-one situations taken away because of wrongly called off-sides in 3 games. The thing is, there is no need to be unfair or biased, the facts speak for themselves, so if you make a video like that, please be critical in what you pick, do not do it with too much Barca mind, do it with an open-mind. The arguments need to be rock-solid for everyone, not just for us.
There's so much clear evidence, there's plenty of room to be selective, and still make a very strong case against the bs the madrid camp has been spouting again lately.

      • Anon says:

Agreed. But in a fair representation, the bias against Barcelona would be clear!

Also, does anyone know how petitions work in Spain? Anyone good at translation (hint the lovely people who translate the various interviews?)

        Thx :)

Once, Japanese auto industry's worker decided to go on a strike. What they did, they started working more and more and more. I don't really know the full story but later they got their demand met.
One thing I could relate this story to this current Barca team is that no matter how much people push OUR TEAM, make ridiculous comments and sh*t, Barca does not go on normal protest. They play and play and play and they play good. Every time I heard someone criticize them, Next game they make people say that THIS IS THE BEST TEAM EVER.

My suggestion: Don't give a crap about what people, esp RM's associate. Let them talk and we keep enjoying and supporting our team.

  7. nadir says:

Even though Novak is a devoted AC Milan fan, he still sees Barca as the best team and Leo the best player. Respect!

  8. ShaneMessi10 says:

I gotta support Novak then in the Aus final, Nadal is a Madrid fan!
    Cmonnn Novak :D

    • Sydney's Omar says:

      Amen brother

      • SlyMysteron says:

But we must also remember that Nadal shares some DNA w/ “the beast”, Miguel Ángel Nadal.

I think Rafa (hyper competitive) is like Lebron James (who roots for the Dallas Cowboys, The NY Yankees and, as a child, the Chicago Bulls). They came of age in a time of media expansion, where front running teams are the easy choice. If Rafa were a teen now, he’d probably root for Barca :)

    • Marinella says:

Nadal is a Madrid fan, but he supported Xavi over Crynaldo to win the FIFA Ballon d'Or, so he does recognize class :) And unlike the players on his team he's a sportsman and a gentleman who congratulates his opponents and doesn't blame the umpire when he loses!!

      • Cool as a Cule says:

Agree Nadal is Class! But with supporting Xavi ahead of CR7 is coz he was sure Messi is gonna win it, and CR7 had no chance, So better to support his countryman rather than the other!

  9. Da Real Deal says:

Novak Djokolona is by far the best tennis player in the world, and he should beat Nadal in the final for the seventh consecutive time!

    • barcafan says:

I very much doubt it. Even tough NADAL is a madrid supporter. He is a great tennis player and i see him win this time. VAMOS RAFA.
      VISCA BARCA.

  10. GeorgesK says:

I guess I am kind of partial to Djokovic, but I have to say that I really like all three current greats: Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. The Nadal-Federer rivalry was far more entertaining to watch than the Sampras-Agassi rivalry of the last decade, and the Nadal-Djokovic rivalry is promising to be quite a great one. Probably not better than Federer-Nadal, but definitely better than Sampras-Agassi.

Anyway, it's strange to think of Nadal as an RM fan. Fans usually look up to the teams they support as role models. In this case, however, it should be the RM squad looking up to Nadal as an example of passion, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

    • Puyi says:

Nadal is lucky he played against pu$sy called Federer, if he played against Djokovic or Murray, they would destroy him. And that pathetic Federer gave him an easy game, Novak and Andy played almost 5 hours… :/

    • Pistol Pete says:

Federer plays like a retard against Nadal, how can you compare that pseudo-rivalry to classics like Becker-Sampras or Sampras-Agassi?

  11. Sebanovic says:

As a half- Serb, Nole fan, and Barca fan, I LOVE THIS QUOTE. HAJDE NOLE I VAMOS BARCA

  14. @beesammy thiaGOALcantara says:

i hate Nadal ( because he is associated with MADrid ) ! The enemy of my enemy is my friend! So, Djokovic for the grand slam!

  15. Barcan says:
