Pinto to renew through 2013

Pinto to renew through 2013

As FC Barcelona’s official website today announced, the Club has reached an agreement with keeper José Manuel Pinto (36) to renew his contract with the blaugrana for another season, through 30 June 2013. The date for signing the new contract has not yet been set, but will be determined soon.

Pinto has played three matches so far this season, two in the Copa del Rey against l’Hospitalet (0-1 and 9-0) and the match against BATE Borissov at the Camp Nou (4-0). At the moment, Pinto has not conceded a goal this season.

In total, the Andalusian keeper has played 38 games with FC Barcelona, allowing 28 goals.

    yeeahhhhh! PINTO IS KING!

    • felix durumbah says:

He is no king. It was his inability to deal with C.Ronaldo's header that cost us the Copa del Rey last season. If it was Valdes, he would have dealt positively with that header. Pls let's go for the Arsenal goalie Szcielny as our number two.

      • Mango says:

lol I don't think it's possible to be that dim on accident. You attack Pinto yet I bet you don't have a clue about Arsenal's GK and his horrid performance against ManU which finished 8-2. Over half of the goals were his fault.

        So kindly….gtfo

        • felix durumbah says:

So, if Arsenal's new buys,,as of that match, hadn't gelled yet and the defence failed to do their job,I guess it's quick-witted and very perceptive of u to say the GK was at fault? Since the new guys blended, has there been a repeat of 8-2? Professor of soccer indeed!

          • Mango says:

like I said, half of the goals were his fault alone, shitty handling, bad distribution, poor dives etc. Besides why do you choose him? Is it because of a name? What is his distribution like? His one on ones? DO you even know? I'm assuming you choose him, cause Marca reported it at some point, not because he would fit our system.

            Like I said….kindly gtfo

      • LM10 says:

He's cost us 2 Copas. He and Chygrynsky were the 2 reasons we didn't beat Sevilla a few seasons back, and then of course him getting owned by CR's header in last year's final.

        • Mango says:

so 11 players on the pitch and you choose to blame 2. I love your rationality. We lost against Sevilla due to poor defending and sub par creativity up front. Easy to make him the scapegoat, isn't it.

          • Maxi says:

Dude you just bashed on seczeny for the exact same reason. 11 Players On the pitch and you saw fit tI basically blame one or two ppl likewise. Talk about double standards and crap arguing.
            Like you said kindly gtfo

          • Mango says:

I didn't blame whatever his name is for the loss, but watch the replay and you'll see 4 of ManU's goals came from him. Not one time did I say Arsenal lost because of him, but a 4-2 looks much closer than an 8-2, doesn't it? The fact that he played horribly in arguably one of the most important matches of the season for him is not a good sign.

Learn to read and not put words in my mouth and I'll accept your reply

          • Reasonus says:

I agree that a blame hardly should be put on one player, but damn Chyggy was bad, especially in that game.

Pinto is entertaining, he is skilled but unsafe. His crazy ideas make your heart beat fast whenever he has the ball. He pulls them off successfully most of the time though. He is needed as a back up currently.

          • Mango says:

yeah I know, just standing up for the player that needs it most. Even now I don't see what Pep saw in him, but you live and learn I guess.

Pinto, imo gives this team something special. He celebrates every goal with passion, helps keep the family vibe going. And he's not bad when called upon. People question his use, but he has played the majority of the cup games and won it there once too in 3 seasons of effort. We would have had it twice but some great Casilllas saves as well as bad marking on Ronaldo lead to his header which gifted them the cup. I watched him play that match, and he was gre at, just unlucky. I didn't just watch the higlights like many here and just made my conclusion

      • _Lily says:

Please. Szczęsny is not going to leave a team that's consistently finished in the top 4 in the EPL to play in the Copa del Rey for Barca.

And, honestly, Szczęsny is too talented to sit on the sidelines for all the important games of the season.

        • Puyi says:

Are you Polish? I don't think the guy is talented, he's good, but he's not great and never will be.

          • _Lily says:

… no. Definitely not. I just think that Szczęsny is a good keeper, especially for his age.

          • Puyi says:

I see that funny 'e' with a tail, so I thought you're Polish. And I thought you're a biased Polish fan, because Sczesny sucks so bad. ;)

          • _Lily says:

… yes, the e has a tail because I can use a keyboard properly. I can also write ñ and é. It's not that hard.

I have no idea how you went from "good but not great" to "sucks so bad," but whatever.

          • Puyi says:

Oh, I didn't want to be too harsh to that goalie. But I love his job against Man Utd, or Tottenham, or Fulham yesterday. Hope you won't cry.

          • _Lily says:

Yes. A random person on the internet insulting one of about 15 keepers playing today who I like is going to make me cry. I am just that pathetic. The tears are streaming down my face as I type.

            Oh wait.

  2. Messi10 says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :(

    • Manita says:

Pinto is not the best keeper (but a good replacement for Victor), but he is the best cheerleader and the glue in the dressing room. And whenever I see his ponytail running on the sideline i can't stop laughing. He is the best motivator.

      • felix durumbah says:

Success is serious biz. Wearing a ponytail or being a 4-star General in cheerleading do not win Copa Del Rey final or other matches for that matter!

      • Letho says:

Then make hum a part of the technical staff! The guy is a proven liability

        • Yomexy says:

Lol..what a strange cum hilarious compliment ‘proven liability’. Critically speaking, this contract renewal should be his last. He his not getting any younger and the younger ones (mino, oier and the purpoted transfer of joseba andrada) should be given a chance. Moreso, his errors are becoming frequent and costly. Sentiments might be a reason for his continuous presence in the team as he brings a pacified and chirpy atmosphere to the team; but this should not come at the expense of our title ambitions. However, this is not to besmirch his good performance for us in the past but it’s evident that in football, it’s prudent to quit when the ovation his loudest lest you become a liability and a persona non grata. ‘Nuff said!

  6. love me barca says:

i respect to pinto, but he is 35! Why we dont give chance to young keepers.

    Pep knows better!!

    • evga says:

There isn't any position on the field, ANY POSITION, where experience outweighs age like it is for a goalkeeper.

Positioning, covering all sides, etc. All of that comes with tons and tons of experience, something that Pinto has and something that young keepers don't.

  7. bob says:

One of the few 2nd goalies who get regular play time in the big clubs. Or how often do you see Antonio Adán starting for Real? Definitely not regularly in all cup games and even less so if the cup game would be against Barca. Yet Pinto gets all that.

  8. EL BARCA NEGRO redux says:

the HEART and SOUL of our team!!! pinto IMHO is a suprior keeper to valdes and also demonstrates more captain like abilities than our beloved (by some anyway) portero…

we all know that VV has his mental lapses, and his most recent clueless play almost cost us the classico in madrid and probably the league… AND pinto EXCELLS at mental toughness!!!!!!

he is supior to VALDES in the most mentally challenging aspects of the game, including:

    PENALTY KICKS

    [youtube rneBpol3bI4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rneBpol3bI4 youtube]
here you will see how pinto gets into the mind ofhis opposition before the kcik, he is not merely guessing which way the ball will be kicked but psychs his oponent out and gets him to kick the ball where he wants it so he can save it. have we ever seen VV do this? NO. there are countless example of pinto doing this you can see more here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apvTPT4Q1Uo) if you want to.

    WHISTELING
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CA41zz2WGc
Pinto is a better whistler than VV and this has saved us a goal in the past (and maybe evena CL????). this is not only whisteling, but also shows his ability to use his head and think on his feet. VV cannot do this!!!! pinto is smarter and for a portero that is an essential quality, like messi, pinto knows what opposing players are going to do before they do him.

    FIGHTING SPIRIT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpLZJ8GC5k4

here we see how PINTO stands up for barca's most important players (including keita) when he is harassed by the monsters at MWAKKAWAKA's new favorite team real madrid. he sacraficed himself to save the TEAM and keita. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME VV WAS SO SELFLESS???????

AND this was all when pinto was a back up keeper. PEP, THIS WAS ANEXCELLENT MOVE TO RENEW PINTO. i hope he is making wages on par with at least xavi, and i know that if barca wants to continue its success PINTO WILL ONE DAY BE FIRST CHOICE KEEPER!!!!!!

    • EL BARCA NEGRO redux says:

      final score:

      VV: 0 ——- PINTO: 3!!!!!!!

        • NovaRockz says:

          Sry i forgot maXwell.

Surely you are going to be a manager.

Messi and Maxwell being cavemen, Keite being a lion, and all that,,, well, they are tactics too… maybe.

      • LM10 says:

Where are Heskey and Joey Barton ?

    • Manita says:

@ El Barca Negro, we love you as much as Pinto.

    • _Lily says:

It's funny that everyone remembers Valdes's mistake, but not his amazing saves later on in the match…

      • Reasonus says:

Pinto is good, but Valdes is one of the top keepers in the world. His one-on-one saves are legendary. It's personal bias, certainly influenced by the mostly clueless media about Valdes being susceptible to blunders. Yes, he screwed up on one occasion and his performance against Milan in San Siro was not of the highest quality, but these are the only negatives I remember while I remember countless saves from him and he's been one of the least error-prone keepers in the past 3 years or so.

  9. Reality says:

We won't win Copa del Rey with Pinto. Madrid will knock us out with him in the goal. Good human, poor kooper.

    • Mango says:

he played a great game against Madrid, he couldn't keep Ronaldo's header out, but he had many other class saves that match. We won the CDR in the 08/09 season with him as GK, have some faith. Real football isn't a video game, just cause he isn't rated as an 85 in FIFA12, that doesn't make him any less capable of filling in

  10. SoccerBoy says:

i just love him. not for his keeping. for getting into fight against madrid. every time when madrid shout on us, he is the man who charge them and getting into violence. so lovely. pinto is good in 1 on 1 and penalty savers.

  11. SoccerBoy says:

i just love him. not for his keeping. for getting into fight against madrid. every time when madrid shout on us, he become the 1st man who charge them and getting into violence. so lovely. pinto is good in 1 on 1 and penalty savers.

  12. Write_theFuture says:

I have no problem with this. I mean, we can't exactly buy Casillas or Neuer for backup goalie, right? I will admit, though, Pinto has made some really stupid mistakes on the ball, but his shot stopping and penalty saving in particular is world class. I just hope he stops trying to be Messi ^^. I remember in the CdR final he tried to do a stepover and dribble Adebayor when he was outside of his box. And this preseason we almost lost a friendly game because of his mistake. But he is a good goalie, and a great guy in the locker room. He has real spirit and compassion, and he always makes me laugh. He's sort of like Valdes on crack :D

  13. VarunMe says:

I think more the the Quality of the backup keeper its the age thats concerning.
For this i hope the Barca B GK gets looked at, this is why Barca were looking for that South American GK, a deal which didn't materialize in the end. Need to be prepared for the future.

    • _Lily says:

Age isn't that big a deal in a keeper… look at Van der Saar. He was starting for one of the best clubs in one of the strongest leagues in the world until he was 40.

      • VarunMe says:

It is actually, GK can get injured and the older one is the higher the chances of getting injured plus longer the recovery time, thats basic body science.
Pinto is more susceptible therefore from physical standpoint, hence any injury to Valdes exposes the depth in GK-ing, a young GK in the wings is absolutely necessary for this reason among many others.

        • _Lily says:

…age being a factor in recovering from an injury is not specific to keepers. What is specific to them is that they can generally play at a high level for longer than players in other positions, need less rest, and are less likely to get injured.

You can "what if" yourself to death, but ultimately, the string of events that would have to align for two keepers on one team to be injured at the same time is very unlikely. Possible? Sure. But unlikely.

It's not like Barcelona is alone in this. Most teams do not have really good backup keepers. Look at Madrid. I don't think I have ever seen a game that Casillas didn't play. Valencia is the only team I can think of that has two keepers that they truly seem to see as being equal in talent.

          • VarunMe says:

Recovering from injuries concerns ALL players including GK's.
            Everyone is not VanDerSaar.
My point concerned long term Plans, and they are made on "What ifs",
that is why we tried so hard to get Andrada from Lanus.
I have seen Adan play many times for RM., he looks quite good so far.

The thing is GK is a really difficult position to get right for a club and this is part of the reason Barca have decided to continue with Pinto because of his experience and his continued involvement with the team, nothing wrong with that but much more effort has to be put in a younger alternative.
So far i get the feeling that Mino, Oier or Masop are not trusted enough or have not developed enough otherwise they would have been promoted already instead of Pinto.
Therefore more effort is needed there.
            Its simple logic.

          • _Lily says:

Yes, we will eventually need a replacement for Pinto. If that's your point, I think everyone who is a Barca fan will agree.

  14. EL BARCA NEGRO redux says:

so today is monday, and like every other monday that means that i watch TROY on showtime. watching this masterpiece also got me thinking about OUR FC BARCELONA, and how similar it actually is TO TROY.

in TROY, the hero is achillies. achillies is a formidable warrier, and fights like a caveman who was raised by wolves. he disposses of his enemies one by one, and even overcomes the seemingly unbeatable HECTOR. but, like all great warriors, achillies has one weakness……. his ACHILLIES.

alas, this is JUST like our team. we have a great team full of players who play like cavemen who were raised by rabid animals, but just like ACHILLIES our team has one weakness…. and it is ALSO at the back of our formation. OUR ACHILLIES HEEL IS VICTOR VALDES.

VV is SERIOUSLY overrated and IMHO IS A liability for our team. the reason why this team is so GREAT is becasue it is INNOVATIvE. but is VV innovative? NO! he is very mistake prone, lOOK:

here you can see how VV almost cost us a liga because he is a bad passer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp-37hmWqHU

here you can see how VV almost lost us a game becasue he WAS NOT METALLY focused: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVSrE6L2Pf4

here you can see how VV is bad at using his hands and clearing the ball from dangerous kicks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIRufIfGhew

the videos could go on and on and on. i think i have already found 100 or more of them on the internet. the fact of the matter is that VV IS NOT OUR BEST GOAL KEEPER, in fact he is the ACHILLIES HEEL of our team!!!!! anyone who has read his biography knows that this is ture beause he actually DROPPED OUT OF LA MASIA at one point to go home and surf!!!! his dad MADE him go back, but VV sadi HIMSELF that his heard was never in it.

on the other hand, PEP clearly sees this, and has exposed VV by resigning JOSE "EL LUCHADOR" PINTO!!!! to a contract extension. PEP has been stubborn int he past, but now he has recognized and ADMITTED his errors, and because of it FC BARCELONA will now be a BETTER TEAM!!!!!!!

  15. Ruben M. says:

  16. Ruben M. says:

I don’t think it was the best idea!!!! His skills aren’t at Barcelona’s level. Where are the youngster from la Masia… Pep is a genious, but still a human who can make mistakes…

  17. Im_Cule says:

Pinto is a good person to have in the dressing room, and he is the sort of person that if he plays for another team you find him annoying but if he plays for the team you support he is a great man! haha :D

  18. tony says:

How wil lwe do with Pinto in net if we play Real in Copa?. We could have had a TREBLE if Valdes played i nthe ffinal..

    • Trays says:

”Could have, would have, should have…” people that live there lives like that constantly, are people that thinks life is like a movie you can play, rewind, fastforward or edit and at such, those kind of folks usually have much to live in regrets for… Truth is, Life is spontaneous and so is football… Looking at it in a bigger picture. Pinto is a brilliant goal custodian, one that has got even ”mystic intelligence” among other qualities, especially during penalties.. I love him and Victor too! It was good he renewed…

  19. g.o ogunnaike says:

let us think deep before make comment here, can some tell me the GK that keep before reaching the final of cope dey re. Was it not Pinto, stop blame Pinto for the goal, do you forget that he make some dangerous save in that march. Let give him honor because he deserve it. Wish GK will allow himself to be on bench, please think before comment.

    • R10 says:

Pinto made a world class save during the final right before the end of the first half. He did an overall good job. You can't blame it all on Pinto.

  20. R10 says:

Not a big fan of Pinto. The whole whistle incident made me lose trust in this guy. Doesn't have the Barca morality. But he was a good keeper in his prime. But he's far from that now. O well, I still don't mind having him as our sub keeper in general.
