FC Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi (25) has won his third Onze d’Or in a row by gaining the top votes in the 36th edition of the award presented by esteemed French magazine Onze Mondial.
Messi (47.5% votes) came out ahead of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo (27.95%) and Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao (6.1%) to win the award which he has already won in 2009 and 2011. The award was not presented in 2010 due to scheduling reasons.For the 2011-12 edition of the Onze d’Or, 11 blaugrana candidates were shortlisted and was the only team with at least one player for each position. While Messi gained the highest votes, Xavi secured the fifth spot in the votes.
By winning the prestigious award for the third time, Messi has equaled Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane. Michel Platini also won the Onze three times in a row. Congratulations Leo!
