Barca B manager Eusebio Sacristan sprang a surprise in the starting line up for the game against Real Murcia at the Estadio Nueva Condomina.
Barca’s form player of the season, the tricky Gerard Deulofeu was left on then bench with Jean-Marie Dongou, a much more direct, strong ‘English style’ centre forward preferred.
With Rafinha also missing due to suspension, it was a line up devoid of its usual creativity.
Although the first half was fairly even, with Barca playing the better football, it was Murcia that led at the break, thanks to a fantastic volley from the edge of the box by Javier Matilla after a clever Murcia corner.
Stand out players for Barca in the first period were Dongou and Espinosa, and so it was another odd decision when Sacristan decided to withdraw both of them early into the half.
Deulofeu, who should’ve really started the game, entered the fray to be followed shortly afterwards by Sergio Araujo.
The latter’s header against the crossbar was the closest Barça came in a frankly poor second half for the visitors. Kiko came on for Patric but his cameo role had hardly any impact.
