Following this weekend’s match against Valencia on Sunday, several of FC Barcelona’s players will join their national teams for various qualification matches and friendlies. The largest contingent will feature for Spain in two matches, with nine FC Barcelona players named in Vicente del Bosque’s latest squad: Valdés, Piqué, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Iniesta, Xavi, Cesc, Pedro, and Villa.
Spain’s first match will be a friendly against Saudi Arabia on September 7. The second match, on September 11, is a World Cup qualifier against Georgia. The players are due at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Madrid on Tuesday, September 4.
Barça will also be well represented in Spain’s U-21 team, with coach Julen Lopetegui calling up six blaugrana players, including Gerard Deulofeu, Sergi Roberto, Martín Montoya, Carles Planas, Marc Bartra, and Cristian Tello. Spain will play Switzerland on September 6 and Croatia on September 10 in qualifiers for the U-21 European Championship in 2013.
FC Barcelona’s new signing, Alex Song, will travel to Cape Verde with Cameroon for a qualification match for the 2013 African Cup of Nations.
The South American players, Alexis, Mascherano, and Messi, will participate in World Cup 2014 qualifiers. The Argentines will play against Paraguay and Peru, while Chile will face Colombia. Dani Alves and Adriano Correia will play South Africa and China in two friendlies with Brazil, which as host of the next World Cup is automatically qualified for the competition.
