Guardiola voted IFFHS’ World’s Best Club Coach
The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), the organisation that chronicles the history and records of association football, has today, for the second time in three years, chosen FC Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola as the 2011 World’s Best Club Coach, the first being 2009. He secured top spot with 201 points, from a poll voted on by selected editorial offices and experts from 81 countries, beating the likes of Real Madrid CF’s José Mourinho and Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson.
While the IFFHS recognition of a footballer or coach is less accepted by fans – for it uses a statistic-based calculation of points as opposed to true merits - its results do seem valid, and its work is recognised by FIFA, even though it is not affiliated to the football’s world governing body.
For the past few years, at least since 2008, the people chosen by the organisation as the best have all made the UEFA Team of the Year and Ballon d’Or shortlist, except the best goal-scorers pick. Its pick of best coach since 2008 has been spot on, with Ferguson and Guardiola voted in to lead the UEFA Team of the Year in 2008 and 2009 respectively. José Mourinho, who won the inaugural 2010 FIFA/FIFPRO Ballon d’Or best coach award, was also IFFHS best coach for that year (though it has to be mentioned that FIFA includes national team coaches in its selection, while IFFHS has separate accolades for club and country).
Meanwhile, the Real Madrid coach, in a press conference today, said “Pep deserves the award” but joked by continuing ”I just hope he doesn’t have to wait for so long to get his, for I won it in 2010 and I’m still waiting for them to give it to me.”

Mourinho must be getting sick of seeing his name under Pep once again!!!
not entirely true……there is an award that Pep wasn't even one of the choices. The Oscars
Naturally Ronaldo won, but Mou came close
Actually, Busquets won.
the Oscar nominations consist of: Dive Maria, C Penaldo, Moronho, Iker and Marcelo.
sorry did not know u call Sergio Ramos a Buttquest in Madrid. what a fitting name! only iker can think of
How poor…
although i must admit C Ronaldo and Di Maria always dive, they do so to help the team. what else can they do as they can never beat a man even if their lives depend on it?
Lol fake.
Kristy, I know it's you, and please stop all these nonsense! You MADRIDISTA spy!
i know diving and acting are not good, BUT we didn't pay 94M euros for C. Ronaldo to come here and flop. he needs to score those penalties! Real Madrid is the best club where he can be to score penalties. he's already the all time top penalty scorer in Madrid! look, he should definitely win a penalty d'or!
secret of C. Ronaldo's penalty taking? it's because i always let him score during the training. for that i think i also deserve an Oscar, haha. of course i won't get it as long as C. Ronaldo and Di Maria are in contention. but i hope one day when C. Ronaldo finds out, he would be surprised by my acting skills too
Now amigos, we must not argue.
Remain calm and humble, and remember; if anyone even slightly brushes you, fall to the ground. That concludes Futbol 101 at La Masia.
Mourinho is the best coach i've ever had. i still remember the very first training session. Mourinho asked everyone to practice kickboxing and translated portuguese jokes into spanish. Then he pulled C. Ronaldo, Marcelo, Di Maria and me out. He gave big oxygen tanks to Marcelo and Di Maria and asked them to "dive until the referee whistles for full time," and told me to let C. Ronaldo score and remember to console C. Ronaldo if he misses the goal.
Man, i've never seen anyone diving without water for 90 minutes. i'm truly grateful that Mourinho joins Real Madrid. where would all these penalties be without him?
IKER, GO TO HELLLLL :@:@:@:@:@:@:@:@:@:@, ONES A MADRID WHINER ALWAYS A MADRID WHINER :@:@:@:@:@:@:@
BARCA ARE BEST AND U ALL KNOW IT
i meant Sergio Ramos for those who don't know
Some of our players arnt saint either. Busquets and Dani are great players for our team and I wouldnt have anyone else, but to not say their some of their "falls" are not divers is just ignorant.
Im also not saying your view is incorrect, but I would leave Iker out of this. Of all the Madrid players, he's a very fair and good person.
Yes, Dani and Busquets are… divers. But I hate people who say Masch and Pedro are. They did it ONCE and during that game, the entire Madrid squad dived and no one complained about the Madrid players that dived.
Oh, I have to give credit to where it's due. Busi hasn't been diving that much this season. But his diving reputation is still with him. He was fouled and should've been given a penalty during our defeat against Getafe. Ref thought he dived. Can't blame the ref though. We were losing. But as long as he keeps this up, people will forget.
Iker has been a bitch for a few seasons now. There was a time when he was respectable, but really the only good guys on Madrid now are Benzema and Kaka.
How exactly has Iker been a *****?
He's a model professional.
The Best Period
Pep – not only the best coach but the hottest one as well
Mourinho, C.Ronaldo will not be at Monday's FIFA Gala in Zurich where the best footballer and coach, among others, will be named. Yellow chickens! No matter where they will be, the global media will inundate their screens and ears for weeks with the 'forbidden' news that Guardiola is WORLD BEST COACH and Messi World Best Footballer! Mourinho, that old idiot, is infecting Ronaldo et al with a very self-destructing virus—envy! And Ronaldo et al are stupidly buying into that. Where I come from we have a proverb that says if u don't rejoice with me over my good fortune, Mother Fortune will never smile on you.
Look what the liars had to say….
A Los Blancos spokesperson said: "Madrid would like to be in Zurich, but we cannot go against those who control the match calendar."
lol It's actually them who have the calendar completely controlled for the whole season. Just look at their fixtures, they always kicked off before us!
….and such lame excuse for one of FIFA's biggest event would surely make Blatter pissed off. Hopefully, he'll strip off their title as the best club of the last century the very next day!
Blatter had better do that. Even if he doesn't, no problem. Pep said Madrid WAS best team of the last century. Meaning: Madrid's time is past and this 21st century, the future, belongs to Barca, playing a revolutionary brand of football hitherto unknown to man. Visca Barca! Let Moudrid go hang from Monday for all I care. Assholes!
makes scence that they wont be coming since its ONLY the best of the best that will be going
yah he really should have been frustrated and yet more frustration is on the way to Jose………haha
Well, he is. Just can't understand why is Mourinho second. What did he win? Shit? Oscar Garcia was better than him…
Well said ,man:/
I don’t get it either… But they pretty much reached all the finals so that’s gotta be it
nope, cause manchester won the league and was in the cl final. only final madrid was in was the copa final. they lost the league with 4 games to go and had a poor disciplinary record. only reason he is second is because real beat barca which is considered a world feat for any team. he should thank us for upping his status but then again, we knocked it down again below what it was before.
oscar garcia isn't even on this list D:
i believe they take into account the entire 2011 calender year, and given that Barca and Madrid are currently considered the top two teams in the world, it stands to reason that Madrid be in the top part of the list. to simply ignore and discredit mou would be foolish. now don't get me wrong, i don't like the man and he pisses me off every time he opens his mouth, but we must admit that the man can coach. again, i don't approve of his coaching strategy nor his character.
I know he is a good coach and all that, but he didn't win anything, and I think that should be taken to consideration, not that, how a good squad did you manage to build for the next calendar year.
the calender year is 2011. as much as it hurts us to acknowledge, Madrid won the Copa del Rey in 2011.
He's only been a coach for what, 3 and a half years and look what he's already won, It's just incredbile. Some idiots believe Pep was actaully just handed this amazing team because they're too ignorant to realise the fact that a manager so young and so inexperienced could have achieved so little in such a short space of time. Also, this doesn't seemed to be portraited enough on Pep, but another thing he is, is ruthless. Selling a two time World Payer of the Year in Ronaldinho and another superstar in Deco was seen as a bold move by many, and bringing in a relatively unknown then, Gerard Pique, Seydou Keita and paying huge bucks for Dani Alves added even more pressure on Pep's team. Especially after the first two league games of that first season. Losing away to Numancia and drawing at home to Rcing, I believe, Pep already had his dounters, including myself. The rest they say, is history. Long live Pep! THE KING OF BARCA!
Also, how in the name of God is Klopp ranked so low? Even Wenger, Heynckes and Schalkes manager are ahead of him. What are these ''judges'' smkong? Obviously, Pep deserves to be first no matter what. But even Mourinho second, come on? Really?
Anybody who claims that Pep is just profiting from the great players he has and that everybody could have that success with such a squad has no idea about football. Pep is changing the way football is played and maybe only a handful of coaches did that in the history of this sport.
I don't know who said it, but it sums it up perfectly: "Mourinho will enter the statistics of football while Guardiola will enter the history."
OT: http://a.yfrog.com/img532/8065/s2tox.jpg
Heartworming. Simply heartworming.
Great, but how they could choose cASSillas the best goalkeeper?
OT: http://a.yfrog.com/img532/8065/s2tox.jpg
Wow…
Take it or leave it,pep has prove all doubters wrong, even Moronho admit defeat
Wowwww!!!!…. The first of 2012
OT:
Mourinho and Ronaldo won't be in the Balon D'or gala on Monday. They're travelling to Malaga. Too bad, I'd love to see their faces when they lose to Messi and Pep. Ronaldo has been practising that "loser's smile" a lot lately:D
after all their hard work, FIFA decided to award them the best spectator spots, but they just let the awards slip. many would love to witness Pep and Messi or Xavi being crowned from the front row
por que?
por que? is it because of his suit? is it because of his tie? is it because of his hair? por que? por que? por que?
IN PEP WE TRUST !!!!
Honestly, I don't care much about these "best in the world" awards. The real strength of the Barcelona team lies in their ability to act as a team that is far more than just the sum of some talented individuals. People say that Messi would be nothing without Xavi and Iniesta and people say that Guardiola would be nothing without Messi. But they all miss the point – that the most important ingredients for success are a unity of spirit and a unity of vision. The culture of FC Barcelona produces that unity – but I have to admit that, from the outside, it seems that Guardiola provides a particularly eloquent expression of that culture. Consequently, he seems the perfect coach for this team.
To his credit, I think Mourinho also appreciates the importance of this unity. And he's done a truly amazing job with Madrid in the past year and a half, especially as he doesn't have the FCB culture to work with. Instead, he tries to manufacture unity by deliberately creating a siege mentality within his camp. These sorts of psychological tricks can only work for so long, though. And he knows it. So he quickly moves on, and his teams fall apart. This, perhaps, is the ultimate distinction between Barcelona's approach and Mourinho's. If and when Pep leaves, he will leave behind a stronger team than he inherited. But I guarantee, when Mourinho leaves Madrid, they will be a weaker team than when he arrived.
A very thoughtful and well balanced comment. Of course one can argue that there is another ultimate distinction between Pep and Mourinho – for Mourinho the end justifies the means. Pep wants to win things too, but for him it is also important how to win them. If one does agree with the latter view, one has to question wether Mourinho's work with Real Madrid really is that good.
I agree with you: for Mourinho, the end does seem to justify the means. But while I would love to romanticize Guardiola's term at Barcelona, I'm not sure we've seen Pep tested on this issue. He's had the wonderful luxury of being able to remain true to his principles (and the principles of the club) while still winning. Regardless, in a cut-throat world like professional football, I certainly don't have the nerve to offer moral judgements on these guys' actions. Nevertheless, I'm glad that I can feel proud of the way Pep conducts himself and manages the team. As coach of both my sons' teams, I hope I can be even half the role model Guardiola is.
You’ve got a pretty sound base of analysis, Chad. If you dont mind my asking, what team do you coach??
Oh, the teams I coach aren't even close to "serious." They're under 8 and under 10 recreational teams in a mid-western town in the US. These are environments where the teams with the better athletes almost always win, because nobody bothers to teach the kids much about football. The younger team is full of natural players, and never lose a game. The older team is full of kids who have no business competing on the field. But I'm particularly proud of them, and the way they've taken to a passing game. We dominate possession in most games, use the whole width of the field, and improve all the time (even if we still lose half the time to the ball-hogging, dribbling fiends the other teams produce).
Please Pep stay with Barca for good of football! The orchestra won't be the same without the conducter, the football won't be the same without the strategist, and we won't be as happy without you!
Tirana with Barca for ever!
r u alb???
Yes! 100%!
Oh Yes! 100 % Alb and 100% crazy Barca!
haha great to know … it wasnt hard to guess.. your name gave it away… lol

WHAT ELSE!!!!! IS THE QUESTION I AM ASKING ALL HATERS.congrat pep.And let me acknowledge kieta for his kind gesture in GH his actions were pure barca
Considering the transfer amount and performance that award should go to Fergie for buying Owen Hargreaves.
please dont display your idiocy…pep 'feeling' cost barca a uvl in the bernabau and ober 100 million
CORRECTION: please dont display my idiocy…i'm a ibra fan so i hate Pep
Very well deserved. Congrats to Pep!
Deserve
Which is more improtant? winning the EPL and coming in second in the UCL, winning the Serie A, or the (broken) copa? I guess that makes SAF and Allegri better than Mou in the last season probably even AVB, he won a treble
Congrats to Pep! Anyway hope this Forlan rumours are not true
In Pep we trust.Visca el Barca visca i Catalunya
The steve job of futbol. Pep the great.
O.T,how on earth will Cuenca leave 4 man united?and what do we want to do with these fucking Milito and Forlan’s rumour?
Real Madrid won only the Copa Del Rey, Manchester City won only the FA Cup. Both are more or less equal achievements. Morinho and Mancini must share whichever spot they get into!
mourinho and cristiano-obssesed so called cules… simply pathetic.
Mou is running out of excuses. When we won Liga, he said the most important trophy is Copa. When we won world cup, he said the most important contest is CL. Now the new one:"I'm most excited about winning La Liga. The Champions League is like El Dorado because everyone wants to win it, but small details sometimes decide the winner and you may win the title without actually deserving to. The league is won by the team that really deserves it after so many months and games." He will end up with no trophies and no excuses.
He sounds exactly like pep.
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3277/la-liga/2011/…
The difference that Pep is consistent, he always talked that Laliga is the most important trophy, the rest is bonus.
guardiola deserves his award not just for what he has done for barca as their coach but also for football……..his coaching methods are an example………….
