Four Barcelona players in Spain’s preliminary squad for London Olypmpics
Martin Montoya, Thiago Alcantara, Cristian Tello and newcomer Jordi Alba are the four Barcelona players that will help Spain fight for the gold medal in 2012 London Olympics.
Olympics National coach Luis Milla, today announced the squad for the friendlies to be played against Senegal and Mexico, shortly before the 2012 London Olympics.
For these friendlies, Milla has called for a total of 22 players, four of whom will be discarded before traveling to London, as only 18 players can make the final list.
Midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who has been suffering from a blow to the lower 1/3rd of his right tibia, an injury that also made him miss the Euro 2012, has been the given the medical clearance just in time to make Luis Milla’s squad.
Luis Milla appreciated the inclusion of Alba in the final list: “I had spoken a lot with Jordi Alba, as with other potential players who could come. We knew he played with the senior team, but he was very excited to do a double. I gave him my congratulations after the tournament, and he said he wanted to play the Olympic Games,” he said.
