First training session under Tito Vilanova
After passing various medical tests on Monday to start the preseason, Barça set to work this Tuesday morning at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, holding the first of two training sessions on the day, at 9 and 19:00 hours. This morning’s session was the first under the orders of Tito Vilanova since he became coach of FC Barcelona’s first team.
There was good news already at this first training session, as Villa and Fontàs were able to exercise with their teammates for the first time since their respective surgeries. Villa, who trained partly with the group, has been out since December 2011, when he broke his left tibia. Fontàs missed the second half of last season after tearing his right knee’s anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in January.
Also participating in the session was Dani Alves, who broke his right collarbone just before the final of the Copa del Rey. Both Fontàs and Alves spent the session working under medical supervision. Isaac Cuenca, for his part, worked in the gym. As for Thiago Alcántara, the midfielder continues with his process of recovery.
Joining in the first team training session on pitch no. 2 were 8 players from Barça B, who will spend this week with Vilanova’s squad: Oier, Sergi Gómez, Planas, Sergi Roberto, Ilie, Rafinha, Kiko Femenía, and Lobato.
The squad will return later this afternoon, at 19:00 hours, for the second training session of the day, also at the Ciutat Esportiva.
