FC Barcelona and goalkeeping coach Unzué part ways

With news of his departure circulating for the last several weeks, an official announcement emerged today from FC Barcelona stating that the Club and first team goalkeeping coach Juan Carlos Unzué have decided, by mutual agreement, to terminate the contract between the two which was set to end on June 30, 2013.

In Barça’s statement, they also wished to thank the coach for his dedication and hard work this past season and to wish him success in his future professional endeavors.

In this manner, Juan Carlos Unzué says goodbye to the blaugrana Club after eight seasons as the goalkeeping coach. His eight years, divided into two periods, began in 2003, with Frank Rijkaard on the bench, through 2010. During the 2010-11 season, he left the Club to coach Numància for a season. In the summer of 2011, with Carles Busquets wishing to return to the reserves, Unzué returned to FC Barcelona to again guide the ‘keepers of the first team.
