Ex-Barça: Txiki Begiristain takes up role at Manchester City

Former Barcelona player (1988-95) and sporting director (2003-10) Txiki Begiristain has been appointed as the sporting director of Manchester City.

Txiki Begiristain (48), who featured with FC Barcelona as a player from 1988 to 1995, and later returned as Director of Football, has now been appointed as Director of Football at English Premier League club Manchester City.

Txiki joined Barcelona from Real Sociedad in 1988 and in a spell that lasted for 7 years at Barcelona, he won many titles including the famous Wembley European Cup in 1992. After finishing his playing career, he came back to the club in 2003 as the Director of Football during the presidency of Joan Laporta. He left the post at the end of Laporta’s presidency.

English League Champions Manchester City announced earlier today that he had been appointed as the Director of Football. “Txiki Berigiristain will join Manchester City FC as Director of Football. His new role at Manchester City will see him take responsibility for supporting the first team manager, Roberto Mancini, in first team recruitment and operations.” It is to be noted that Ferran Soriano, one of the five vice-presidents during Laporta’s reign, is currently the CEO at Manchester City.
