Diego Alves: “We will fight right up to the final seconds”
Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves played an instrumental role in ensuring that his side visited Camp Nou not with a disadvantage when he saved Lionel Messi’s penalty in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semis that kept the match tied at 1-1. With the decisive second leg on Wednesday, Alves will have to be in topnotch form as Valencia look to grab a place in the final of the competition to be held in May.
“We will fight right up to the final seconds and will leave everything on the pitch,” said the Brazilian, adding that Valencia CF would have to “be near-perfect in order to achieve success.”
Guardiola’s side are seven points behind Real Madrid in La Liga which has resulted in talks about Barca not being as formidable as they were in the last three seasons. But Alves doesn’t believe that Barca’s recent run of draws and narrow victories means that it isn’t a great team anymore. ”We don’t know what will happen, as Barcelona’s style and aggression leads to many chances over the course of ninety minutes,” he said. ”People seem to think that things are going badly for Barça, but that isn’t the case. They are still the best team in the world -even if they haven’t had as many chances recently.”
With the score tied at 1-1 after the first leg, Alves admitted that the home side had a slight advantage with an away goal. Nonetheless he remains optimistic. “Negativity doesn’t feature in our plans,” he said. “We want to get the best out of the team this Wednesday in order to continue in the competition.”
To give his side a shot, Alves will have to repeat the feat that he achieved at La Mestalla when he stopped Messi’s penalty. But Alves doesn’t want to find himself in that situation often. “I don’t want penalties!” he joked, adding that there are other ways Barca can score. ”They are dead ball specialists and have surprised ourselves and Real Madrid on the back post from crosses, so we will have to be alert from those too.”
Valencia had a tough outing on Sunday in Madrid, where they drew against Atletico Madrid. Unai Emery’s men will have only two days to recover and travel to Barca. But Alves doesn’t think that the tough calendar is an excuse. “That’s the way the calendar is, and you just have to accept it,” he said. “There is a game on Wednesday and the excitement that we have will eliminate any fatigue from previous games.”

OFF TOPIC Guys, check this out http://www.kickette.com/files/2009/09/gerardpiquesupermodelworkandhurt.jpg The most marketable barca player.PIQUE
Diego Alves, you can say whateva u want. All I know is: tomorrow u guys are going back home EMPTY-HANDED.Cules, u can take my assurance to the bank.
Overconfidence will need to nowhere. Confidence does matter, and i have confidence on our players.
This is why lately Cules has been told as an arrogant fan.. People like you ruined our image.
It will be a hard match against Valencia. Hope we come out with flying colors.
OT: TB,What about Weekly Youth Leagues?
OT.. is it ture that Lady Gaga is a boy?
and what effect does that have on our game against Valencia or on the 7 point deficit in La Liga.
well i did say off topic, you idiot
wether the answer to your question is yes or no……will it slove our poor away recoed in the league this season? or will it help us to become the first team in more than 20 years to win back to back champions league titles?
well if it is a boy, maybe we can sign him as a strike for the rest of the season. and who knows it might help us win the champions league and become the first team to do it in 20 years like you said.
If she or he can bench Fabregas! then why not sign her or him up!
you just don't like Cesc do you?
no I don't like Fabregas! never liked him and never will like him!
and I still don't understand why Barca signed him in the first place. I remember alot of people said Fabregas was signed to replace Xavi (not you) but I still don't see it that way.
I hope u have a night to forget at Nou camp. Messi will not spare u this time. But this keeper is damn good! We ‘ll av to be at our best to best them.
Visca el barca!
My brother, we've heard keepers who blabbed and blabbed prior to Camp Nou meetings, only to fall yaakata in our reverred grounds.Diego Alves was beaten once at Mestalla playing in front of his own people, tomorrow he's playing away, he'll be beaten more than once.Hhahahahahahaha. hehehehehehehe. hawhawhawhawhawhaw!
Yes, and then the Sevilla keeper came up…
barca more greater , they will fight until final nanosecond .
I'm sure they will .. I respect Valencia but hope Alves' words are a good omen since they resemble those of another keeper: Iker Casillas, prior to the second leg, the outcome of which was Barca's qualification LOL
I am not worried about the middle, as we are far superior to Banega , Albelda and Parejo with Xavi, Iniesta, Cesc and Thiago but it's critical that we control our right flank and neutralize the Alba, Mathieu and Piatti threat and hope Pinto has a big game since we can not concede away goals.
As long as we put away the chances that we will create we will win.
Visca el Barca

Have BELIEVE in the team Cules! Messi will fly once again.
OT: I'm so glad that Pep is the Boss and he showed it to Ibraflop. In Milan it seems that Allegri is afraid of him.
