According to Catalan radio station RAC1, FC Barcelona sports vice president Josep Maria Bartomeu was in London on Tuesday, negotiating the signing of Arsenal midfielder and Cameroon international Alex Song (24), an operation that could be closed in the coming hours.
Bartomeu, who traveled with the club’s director of football Raul Sanllehí, was in constant contact with Sandro Rosell during the negotiations for the transfer, and a deal could be closed at around €16 million. The Catalan club offers about €15 million for the player, while the London club asks for €18 million. None of the two Barca players that have previously been considered as potential bargaining chips, Ibrahim Afellay or Cristian Tello, will be involved in the operation, according to latest reports.
The club and the player have already agreed personal terms. The player will have a five-year contract, and will earn wages of nearly €5 million gross annually.
