Centre back Andreu Fontàs, who was injured with a torn cruciate ligament, was finally declared back to full fitness on Tuesday.

Fontàs was injured on January 12 in the Copa del Rey match against Osasuna and following surgery missed the remainder of last season. On Tuesday he was finally declared back to full fitness. Andreu Fontàs is the third player to be declared fully fit following the returns of David Villa and Carles Puyol. Fontàs has been training with the first team since the squad regrouped after the summer break.

Fontàs may well return to first team action in one of the two friendlies in Gothenburg and Bucharest this week and he is looking forward to playing again. He said, “I feel great, it’s a really good sensation. I have tests on Tuesday and we’ll see how things go. I have got all my enthusiasm back.” He added that the group is training hard, and they’re going into the new season at their finest form.
