FC Barcelona’s Cameroonian midfielder Alexandre Dimitri Song Billong (25) has been announced by the African Football Confederation to be one of three finalists for the 2012 African Player of the Year award. His competitors for the award are Didier Drogba (Shanghai Shenhua) and Touré Yaya (Manchester City).
Song played out the 2011-12 season for Premiership club Arsenal FC, making 46 appearances resulting in 1 goal and 14 assists. Since moving to FC Barcelona, Song has appeared in 16 games and scored 1 goal. Didier Drogba and Yaya Touré have both been decisive for Chelsea and Manchester City respectively. Drogba formed a vital part of the Chelsea team which won the while the ex-Blaugrana man was key in Manchester City’s Premier League title conquest.
The winner of the 2012 African Player of the Year award will be announced on December 20 in Accra, Ghana.
