Agreement with Vilanova through 2014

As announced today via their official website, FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Francesc ‘Tito’ Vilanova for a two year contract as head coach of the first team. The new contract, which will run through June 30, 2014, will be signed by Vilanova this Friday, June 15th, at 12.

Following the contract signing, Vilanova will pose for official photos at 12:30 in front of the Club’s offices and then, at 13:00, will hold a press conference in the Paris room alongside Sandro Rosell and Andoni Zubizarreta. His presentation and all related activities will be streamed live via the Club’s official site.

Vilanova has worked as assistant coach to Pep Guardiola at Barça for the last five seasons. Both men arrived to the blaugrana bench in 2007 in charge of the B team, taking over the helm of the first team the following season in 2008.

Tito Vilanova, born in Bellacaire d’Empordà on September 17 in 1969, first joined Barça’s youth ranks in 1984. He made it to Barça B and featured in three first-team friendlies, before playing for Figueres, Celta, Badajoz, Mallorca, Lleida, Elche and Gramenet. After retiring as a player, he began his managerial career, working with FC Barcelona’s Cadete B (U15) team during the 2001-02 season.
