The Ratings: FC Barcelona 3-1 Deportivo Alavés

FC Barcelona clinched its place in the next round of the Copa del Rey with a 3-1 home win over Alavés, in a match where Tito Vilanova rested most of his star players. David Villa shined the brightest, scoring a brace including a magnificent free kick.

Here are the ratings for last night’s match:

José Manuel Pinto – 7

Had no chance in the goal he conceded and very little work to do overall, only some routine saves.

Adriano – 7.5

Was to blame for the Alavés goal as he lost the ball needlessly in a compromising position, but made up for it by scoring the equalizer minutes later and being an ever dangerous attacking outlet down the left flank.

Carles Puyol – 7.5

Didn’t have much work to do, but did well whenever called upon and showed his great leadership qualities in a team full of young players.

Javier Mascherano – 7

Was a little shaky at the start of the match, but improved as it went on, showing more calm and composure at the back. He was also rarely troubled, especially in the second half.

Martin Montoya – 7

Could have done better to prevent Alavés’s goal, but had a solid performance apart from that, not compromising at the back and providing a decent attacking outlet down the right flank, even if he didn’t take many risks.

Alex Song – 7

Wasn’t as quick and accurate in his distribution as Busquets usually is, but had a solid performance, with quite a few quality and important tackles and interceptions.

Sergi Roberto – 6

Had some nice touches, but his actions were mostly inconsequential and he missed some routine passes. Maybe the nerves played a part but he still has some way to go before being ready for first team football.

Jonathan dos Santos – 6.5

Combined well with Thiago and his other attacking teammates, and was accurate with his passing, but lacked some cutting edge as his passing was mostly conservative. Gave the ball away in a crucial position for the Alaves goal.

Thiago Alcantara – 8

Provided some much needed spark in the final third with his vision, passing and link up play, and showed some tremendous bits of skill throughout the match, staking a claim for a regular starting spot now that he’s back from injury. Assisted Adriano’s goal and sent the through ball to Tello who crossed to Villa for the third goal.

Cristian Tello – 8

Was very active throughout the entire match, especially in the second half, with his pace wreaking havoc on a consistent basis. He set up Villa’s second goal.

David Villa – 8.5

Man of the Match. Was far from great in the first half, but was excellent in the second half, with a magnificent free kick and a great finish capping off a stellar performance from El Guaje.

Gerard Deulofeu – 6

His nerves clearly showed as he made some good runs but gave away possession cheaply quite a few times and was too eager to make something happen.

Planas – N/A

Came in too late to make a real impact.

Cesc Fabregas – N/A

Same as Planas.
