Post-Match Review: Málaga CF 1-4 FC Barcelona
After FC Barcelona’s poor away record so far this season, a Lionel Messi hat trick may have been one of the last results predicted for the La Liga game against Málaga CF in La Rosaleda. Though the game kicked off less than commandingly, the three-time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner proved that home or away, this team can never be discounted.
Head coach Pep Guardiola decided to rest a few starting eleven veterans, such as Xavi and Puyol, after the intense 2-1 Copa del Rey victory in Madrid last Wednesday. Valdés, Alves, Piqué, Mascherano, Abidal, Busquets, Iniesta, Thiago, Adriano, Messi and Alexis were the ones who began the game on the pitch.
The very first action of the match involved Busquets fouling Eliseu and conceding a free kick to Málaga which went wide. In the 7th minute, Barcelona had its first real chance to score after Messi passed to Thiago on the left who assisted Alexis. However, the Chilean’s diving header was caught by Málaga goalkeeper Caballero. Two minutes later, Messi took a top of the box shot but the ball deflected off a defender and flew out for a corner.
The 15th minute saw Málaga with its first goal scoring opportunity as Isco almost curled a distance shot into the far-post from distance but Valdés was able to tip it out for a corner. Valdés again saved an effort from Isco after a corner, first denying a header with his leg and then blocking the rebound from close-range. Set pieces seemed to be the technique of choice as in the 19th minute, Piqué whipped a powerful header but failed to aim correctly.
Demichelis was forced to clear a Messi shot off the line in the 29th minute, after Abidal could not settle the ball in the box and assisted Messi instead. Cabellero had made some very crucial saves for Málaga, but unfortunately he could not keep out Messi’s wicked 33rd minute header. Adriano crossed the ball into the box and straight to Messi’s head. The long awaited goal had finally arrived.
At halftime, Barcelona led 1-0 and may have felt unlucky that the margin was not wider. However, given the team’s shaky away form this season, a goal lead with 45 minutes still left to play was not a bad start at all.
The momentum that began late in the first half only continued to build into the second. Just three minutes in, Alexis converted Barcelona’s second goal of the evening. The ball was bouncing around Málaga’s box, first from a low shot by Thiago that was pushed away by Cabellero only to be sent back in again by Adriano. Thiago took another shot but was again stopped by Cabellero whose luck had apparently run out as Alexis was able to steal the rebound and the second goal.
In the 51st minute, Messi secured his brace in his usual fashion. Málaga turned the ball over in its own half and Messi took advantage by making one of his stunning runs to goal and slotting the ball inside the opposite post after an assist from Thiago. Nine minutes later, Málaga realized it was time for some changes and substituted on Rondón and Miglierina for Van Nistelrooy and Maresca respectively.
The first yellow card of the game was given in the 62nd minute to Camacho for tackling Busquets. After another two minutes, Barcelona made its first change when goal scorer Alexis was replaced by Cuenca. The 67th minute also saw Adriano leave for Dos Santos.
Messi nearly had his third when he curled a shot into the upper corner only to have the ball ricochet off the crossbar and shoot down and away from goal. In that same 73rd minute, Barcelona’s last substitution of Pedro on for Iniesta was made. Five minutes later, Málaga did likewise and changed Iraheta off for Recio.
Messi’s hat trick had been lurking for a while and was finally unleashed in the 80th minute. Pedro gave the assist, but this was another of Messi’s largely solo efforts that saw him dribble into the box and neatly shoot past Cabellero.
Perhaps with a four goal to nil lead, and less than ten minutes to play, Barcelona eased up a bit. However, this was just enough to allow Málaga to pull one back late. In the 85th minute, Rondón received the ball from Recio and was able to finish with a grounded strike past Valdés.
The game ended 4-1 in Barcelona’s favor which was an unexpected result on various accounts. In the beginning of the match, the absence of resident playmaker Xavi was blatantly clear and it was unsure if the team would find its direction and goals without him. However, at the end when Barcelona was four goals ahead, if another goal was anticipated it would have been for the blaugrana manita, not a Málaga consolation prize. This successful away game, though, was good for the players’ confidence, especially as they head into the final Copa del Rey leg against Real Madrid CF at home midweek.

Brilliant hat-trick from Messi but Valdés's saves were equally important. When will people recognise him for the brilliant keeper that he is?
Agreed. If it wasnt for his saves in the first half we would have definitely dropped all points
u ar rite, valdes save us assuming dey first score it would av been hard 2 draw talkles 2 win….r madrid shuld beware.
Totally agree with you.
Two "decent" saves said the commentator. Decent? What does this guy have to do to finally get the praise he deserves. Valdes is hands down the best keeper in the world at the moment.
Ray Hudson called VV the best goal keep in the world, so at least one announcer gives him credit.
alexis games are so good that he gets better every time
Aight, so in Liga; we need someone to at least draw with Madrid. But as we saw Bilbao couldn't do anything and Malaga crumbled in front of us today (so they likely wont do any harm to Madrid); then who the hell is going to force Madrid to drop points other than us?
Valencia?!? They would have last time if not for……..
earlier in the season i told you to stop relying on the other big teams in spain to take points off madrid, it just won't happen. they play so open against madrid all it takes is one long pass to set madrid on goal. earlier today in the CB i said to everyone saying biesla bilboa can do it that they are setting themselves up for major disappointment. i don't even watch the games but if real are going to drop points it's going to be against a smaller team who gets nasty and defends like their is no 2morrow. so basically madrid drop points will come randomly.
If you're not watching the games, how on earth can you make that judgment? Madrid have profited like mad off poor calls this season, particularly against the other big teams in Spain.
I agree that Madrid will likely drop points against a smaller team. However, I also think that they will drop at least a few points against a bigger team. I think Atletico has a very good chance, given their new management, and Levante has already taken points from Madrid (and as odd as it seems, Levante are a big team this season).
i base my judgement off the last seasons, when was the last time madrid dropped points against any of big teams except barca and i know they can't score 3 – 6 goals against any team who sits deep so when i see the score i know they played a wide open game. i honestly haven't see any games of madrid vs the big teams this season, i saw 1 game and that was obviously el classico. if you don't believe it then watch the next away game against bilboa, it's going to be the same exact result, madrid win. when they see madrid they see another la liga team, when they see barca they see the world's best so you treat people how you see them.
I'm assuming that you're not counting Levante. The last time Madrid dropped points against a big team other than Barcelona was the 2009-2010 season, where they lost to both Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao. The season before that, they dropped points to Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia, and Villarreal. The season before that, they dropped points to Valencia, Sevilla, and Espanyol.
Them not dropping any points against big teams is a trend that's only about a year and a half old (again, assuming that you don't count Levante, who took 5 of 6 points from them in the calendar year of 2011). Given the way Athletic, Atletico, and Valencia played against them in the first half of the season – two of them in the Bernabeu – I suspect that that streak is going to be broken before the season is done.
Monitoring the score and looking at the stats isn't enough to really understand the tenor of the game.
since when is levante a big team? just because they had a good start doesn't make them a big team. they rode their luck and now they can't buy a win. i won't be surprised if madrid trash them. levante was one of those small teams who fought tooth and nail and so rewarded. that's how madrid will drop points.
My comments do not claim whether a team plays well or not against madrid, show me where in comments i make that assumption. my comments clearly states that the big teams lose against madrid and that if it was 3-6 scoreline then it was a wide open game which clearly suits madrid counter attacking style. I'm just pointing out how these teams have yet to figure out how to beat madrid, it's almost as if they don't care, just roll back in with the same tactic they got beat with last time. sevilla being my main point, defend against barca, open the floodgates against madrid.
Given that you haven't actually watched the games in question, I don't think that you're going to understand my point, and I can't really argue with yours. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
The unexpected team always causes madrid to loose points. It will happen when u least expect it.
This exactly.
The teams Madrid dropped points against last season:
1. Barcelona (5/6 – away loss, home draw)
9. Osasuna (3/6 – away loss)
10. Sporting Gijon (3/6 – home loss)
13. Real Zaragoza (3/6 – home loss)
14. Levante (2/6 – away draw)
17. Mallorca (2/6 – away draw)
18. Deportivo La Coruña (2/6 – away draw)
20. Almeria (2/6 – away draw)
Many of their dropped points were against teams that were still fighting against relegation on the last day. Who knows what will happen this year?
They will probably drop points against the last team we expect, trust me, they WILL drop points in at least one game. Levante and Racing cost them points, so they aren't unstoppable, our chance will come don't worry…
Levante!!
bielsa's team always vulnerable from counter attack, just like chile in wc. the only teams that can stop madrid are teams that sit deep and defend, not attacking madrid.
It's difficult to say based on how they played us. Levante beat Madrid, but while they played bravely against us, we won handily.
My favorites to upset Madrid are Valencia, Levante, Atletico Madrid, and Athletic Bilbao (the former two made impressive showings at home and Valencia were absolutely livid about the uncalled penalty, and Atletico and Athletic both made strong showings at the Bernabeu that were disrupted by red cards).
But who knows? Last year, Madrid dropped points against all two of the three teams that were ultimately relegated. It may well be when we least expect it.
I think this year is the year that Atletico will finally beat Real again. I only hope they don't beat us as well. :-S
I have high hopes in el Cholo this season. I haven't got a chance to watch Atletico games, but well, we'll see. He, once, lead Atletico won the Liga at 1996 (or is it 1994?), right?
i wont be suprised if all of Messi, alexis, cesc, xavi, iniesta, sergio, valdes, puyol, alves, pique and Abidal all shows up as candidate of ballon d or this year
Wow, Messi’s and Alexis’ legs are exactly in the same position!
Really annoyed at all the penalties Madrid have gotten. What a load of BS
We have just reached the half way mark of the season though – so no panic once we get within 2 or 3 points of them
Hopefully this is the start of a good away run in La Liga, we can't afford to drop any more points!
I think someone said it before I hate having to hope another team defeats Madrid if its not us. And I'm tired of discussing facts about penalties like how Madrid has gotten more than everyone this season than in 3 years…Can't wait to hear Mourinho rant about how its unfair Messi is allowed to use his left foot on Wednesday.
BTW Ronaldo's new name is PK7
^^LMAO…
we just lost the league because of peps feeling.he will not say he is not aware that real madrid will do anything just to see us not suceeding.
i can tell you that they were the people that paid the portuguese ref that officiated our match against inter to rob us so as to prevent us from coming to thier evil stadium to defend our trophy.
pep is a good coach but he is full of himself and this has cost us the league.tomorrow the idiotic one will say he has conquered spain where as it was pep feeling that made it possible for him.
why on earth will you bring up a strange 3/4/3 when you know know your players are unfamiliar with such formation.we dropped points where we are not supose to drop points because of this hopeless foremation they call 3/4/3.Last season we were suppose to win the treble but he decided to put pinto in goal just because he want to pinto to see him as a good man.
this season he is playing 3/4/3 so as to accomadate fabregas because he promised to give fabrages first team football before he agreed to sign for barca
today he played 433 for the very first time and the result showed that he has failed us.no matter what he has won in the past i will not be happy to see mou win anything because he will go ahead and utter filt.
there are 19 games still left to play for and how i see things madrid will never ever win all of this games. in 3 out of the last 5 or 6 games they were 1 goal behind. then there were ridiculous decisions from the ref that helped madrid win their games. but there's no way they will be that lucky in all 19 games. especially against us i expect them to lose. because they're already afraid to go to camp nou. also we have a superior team to them and i believe that after this very good away game against malaga and the copa clasico on wednesday we will start a run and get those lucky basterds before they even play us.
the league is far from over and i don't want to blame the refs for anything but i hope that they will decide better from now on.
visca barca <3
Here we go again. If you honestly think that the 3-4-3 cost us points, and not weak team performances and hints of complacency, then you obviously have something against Pep and you're just looking for a reason to lash out on him.
Today we played 4-3-3 and we played a very average first 45 minutes, lucky not to be a goal down after 30 minutes. Why was that now? We played 4-3-3, didn't we? We played 4-3-3 at San Sebastian. We didn't win? How can that be? We lost at Getafe after a goal from a corner, when the system doesn't matter. Why's that?
That constant bitching about the 3-4-3 is ridiculous. But maybe you don't understand enough of the game to look beyond the system. Just for your information. We played 3-4-3 at the San Siro and at the 3-1 at the Bernabeu, two of our best games this season.
i usually disguised under the name trinibarca.4.life. i hate Pep because i am a fan of Mourinho
I am not sure you're not a Barca fan based on things you've said. I think you're just being sarcastic here but come on man…don't be so extreme. You hate a few palyers for no good reason and have this big chip on your shoulder it seems to me. I think you know youre football and are a fan, just a little too extreme sometimes.
You are such an ungrateful person. How dear you say such about Pep. I really don’t see you as a fan but as a bandwagon follow, the season has just gone half and you have already giving up on a team that has giving you so much to be happy about. With your way of thinking a club like Barca with all the stars will not win anything and will never be this great. Only time like this determines a great team and Pep and his boys will prove themselves again. Watch and see. Take your badluck and bad mouth else where. No matter how the season ends Pep has not failed us. God bless Barca, her true fans, Pep and his boys.
Our boys played a great game today, and we were able to rest key players in preparation for the midweek clasico. Forget Madrid. I am proud of our efforts today. Barcelona will triumph in the end, and will do it with style.
guys, dont worry, they should play away vs bilbao, that game isnt this same easily!
This game was same like A.madrid, they had red card and 2 pentalties to R.madrid then result was 4-1!im hope to A.madrid too, they will fight with new coach and great falcao!
Note:
Plz remember last year,we played a great game with high score vs almeria before clasico(5-0)and madrid played vs bilbao, they defeated bilbao with 5 goals(5-1,2penalties again)then we defeated them 5-0.infact we defeated madrid with same number of goals that they scored to bilbao.
Now i hope for it again.mean barca 4-0 madrid.
It is time to invistigate refs in MAD games and see how much they are getting paid. This is unthinkable to alot, but now remember you are talking about Mourinho, a sick bastard that had broken every rule known in the game. He is desperate to save his job. The game has the word foul written all over it. I know there is something rotten here. After all, MOU had broken sanctions before when he paid people to get to the lucker room in a laundry cart.
This is really really really sad. Mad and MAD turned the beautiful game to a scripted WWF.
I gues everything can be bought, including the refs and the Fedration.
Sorry, but you sound exactly like Mou himself.
They might win the league this year. So what? The whole world knows (and will see on Wednesday again) that they're not the best team in Spain. They're the team that was hungrier and more motivated against "weak" opponents. That we show a little complacency here and there is normal after 3 league titles in a row. It's a title they might win at our mercy.
Mou had nothing to complain about. They were clearly inferior to us last season. In the end, the best team won.
However, this season, we do have something to complain about. We are clearly superior to them yet they are ahead of us not because they are superior, but because they have gotten alot of gifts from the ref. Thats a result of Mou's mind tactics, making it hard for the ref to judge against them, but very easy to judge against us.
Of course refs will judge in favor of Madrid as the heat they get when they dont is ferocious. We can expect this to continue as long as the refs dont get any heat for judging in favor of Madrid in all matches.
UEFA and Spanish Federation are corrupted organization. It really amazing that the beautiful game is operated by mafia. Everybody annoyed with this but nothing really happens.
Let's unify and run the petition to UEFA about lack of actions against violence and modern technical approach to improve refereeing.
Barcelona as a club has over 25 million supporters on facebook! Let's write down the petition and ask all barca related sites to post it and sign it! We just can't keep watching this!
Don't take it personal, but you too sound like Mourinho.
Mou had nothing to complain about. It was just sour grapes from an inferior team.
Not all issues with refs are equal. Mou had no case and just used it for mind games. Barca has an overwhelming case.
do you need to be reminded about the disgraceful match of chelsea and barcelona? or ac milan and barcelona with shevko's disallowed goal because of puyol dive? or last season with arsenal? or with semi final with real madrid?
shut up and sit down child
Lol, at your "examples".
Both teams benefited from the ref in the two Chelsea games. Best team won in the end.
In the Milan game, ref overlooked a blatant penalty for us.
In the Arsenal games last season, Messi got a legit goal disallowed in the first leg, while in the second leg, two clear penalties for us were ignored before the so-called game-changing red card to Van Persie.
If you want to talk about us refs favoring us, your examples are proving exactly the opposite.
dumbass what i'm trying to say is that you're all saying that the refs are on real madrid's side, and you're forgetting about what the refs are doing for you.
yep, you're trying, dumbass, try again and again and again… no penalty on Henry against Chelsea in the first leg, no red card for Ballack in the same game, red card fot Abidal for Anelka's dive in the second leg, no red card for Essien when he tried to injure Iniesta, yep, they help us
good bye, f@ckhead
@aaaa
That's right. Just pick out the things that fit our agenda and ignore all the calls that went against Barça. Just like any true Merengue would do.
You are living proof that not every ejaculation deserves a name.
LOL, just saw on Graham Hunter twitter: "JMou says; "No big deal whistled by fans. "1st time happened to me. "Most coaches get it. "Ronaldo, Zidane, Cristiano had that here"
Sadly, we've put ourselves in the position whereby although we have soundly defeated RM over and over again, we need at least one other team to stop bending over when they play Real to have a chance at the title this year. All of this talk of the mighty Bilbao and the great Bielsa makes me sick when then they go out and get beaten to a pulp.
But I agree with those who said that RM will drop points against teams you'd least expect them to drop points against. Which means I also don't have high hopes to get help from the mighty, newly-rediscovered Atletico Madrid and the great Simeone
Today we played well overall, although it has to be said that Messi's and Valdes' brilliance saved us from a less-than-positive result. But I'll take this kind of performance any day, don't get me wrong – as long as we get three points.
How can u attack Bilbao in such a way? They played great, but the ref was not on their side.
Athletic played very good. If Llorente would have made it 2-1…
I wouldn't say they played great. Their finishing (apart from Llorente's first goal) was embarrassing. It's like they never expected to get an open shot in front of the goal and just didn't know what to do with it. Athletic should have been up 3-1 at halftime.
I agree %100 with you. It's because we didn't defend our goal in games that we had put in our pocket. Madrid played some good games, had luck at other times and surely were favored by "some" referees but it's only because of our loss of focus that we lost some easy games. SAD! SAD! SAD!
I hope and pray that Madrid will drop points in unlikely games. No way they will every game until the end of season BUT we need to not give up and give away any more points. Is that possible? YES. We need to be hungry for that LIGA title or Madrid will take it away.
You know, this sort of attitude really annoys me.
Some teams have just laid down and let Madrid walk all over them. Sevilla is a good example. However, just because some teams were not victorious does not mean that they didn't try. Mallorca did not just "bend over." Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid both fought valiantly at the Bernabeu, and were greatly disadvantaged by questionable reds and penalty calls. Valencia deserved a tie (at least). Just because Madrid ultimately walked out of those games with the three points doesn't mean that those teams were not fighting or that Madrid deserved those points.
To bring it back to a Barcelona example: we beat Levante 5-0. However, I personally felt like they deserved a lot of credit for playing a good, open game. The result does not mean that they did not fight.
Some teams do not fight against Madrid. I get frustrated when they are teams that were heroic against Barcelona (like Sevilla). However, not all teams are just "bending over." Some of them are fighting and getting screwed by ref calls.
I saw on Allas account on youtube video "6 penalties not given to Barcelona": http://www.youtube.com/user/allasFCB2?feature=wat…
watch the difference!
That video and the disallowed Messi goal against Getafe – there are the -5 points.
Barcafanir,
I love it let’s do it. Enough is enough. Where do I sign?
Question: Was there ever a team that got more penalties than Real Madrid?
I just read some stats. It was something like 11 penalties for us in the last 3 years. Real had 27. Oh, make that 29. I'm not saying that they're not penalties, but the amount is… well… not normal.
I would also like to know how many penalties have been given against Real. I only know today we had one more. Same old story.
Of course I meant penalties not given against Real. There we saw one more today.
http://www.football-lineups.com/tourn/La_Liga_201…
Here you can see the statisics over penelties.Last 3 seasons Real have been on top with most penelties given to them and least given against them, basically.
We have to forget about Madrid and focus on what we can do. We must not lose any more games and beat Madrid in Copa and CL. As for the league if we beat Madrid in the return leg at camp nou then even if Madrid wins we will know that we are worthy winners and can take pride in the fact that we are still better then them.Besides i don't think Madrid will be unbeaten. in the second half of the season. If they trip up even once then the league is back in our hands. C'mon cules don't lose hope just yet.
Wonderful display tonight. I think the team won't lose any more points, but as long the evil team has the refs in their pocket they won't drop points either..
Now bring on the eye pokers!
Camp Nou is waiting….
Visca EL BARCA!
I like the picture!
Messi and Alexis like aircrafts, flying in a formation:D
Great result, and equally needed to continue the chase for the La Liga title this year. It did seem a little grim at first as our defense got a feel for veteran Van Nistelrooy but with the big saves by Valdes, the game seemed to get the spark that it needed to turn around and get an attacking feel to it. If we continue to play like this against teams, Madrid will slip up. They have the tendency and history of getting too comfortable with the hint of power that is given to them every season. It will be a tough remainder of the season, but Messi and the crew are just giving us a peek at what the world's greatest team is capable of doing. As always, Visca Barça!
You have a short memory. At least state facts not opinions. How many RM players deserve to be sent off and haven’t? When was the last time FCB got two penalties in one game?
How many FCB goals got disallowed unfairly just this season?
Again short memory or lack of, is a serious problem. You sound more like MOU in his typical press conference
and yet you are not denying anything i've said
i dont think any real madrid deserved a single red card this season that they havent got
lmao how many barca goals were disallowed?
GO TO RM site, you are in the wrong Place. The whole world saw your RM team and what they stand for. Three players from RM should have been sent off , yet you managed to have 12 at the end of the game ( including the reff)
You are lying to yourself and not going to convince anyone here. GO AWAY
Barca B with a nice 2-0 win today as well.
Don't worry madrids luck will eventually run out…
Ray Hudson said something about the new 2012-2013 Barca kits. Does anyone have a link to these jerseys?
He was probably referring to these, but they are still just a rumor started by Sport: http://www.barcaloco.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/…
While I agree with the sentiment that some of those drawn (and that one lost) games could've been won with a little bit more luck and effort from our team, I just have to state one thing: Valencia is the one team that Pep SHOULDN'T have messed with by playing a 3-4-3 and taking so long to actually swap to a 4-3-3. After the change was made, we have seen a drastic change in the flow of the game as well. The game was much slower, which benefited us greatly, and almost every chance for goal that occurred was in front of Valencia's goal. How has Valencia managed to make use of our 3-4-3 formation? Easy. By loading their left wing. Almost every chance they've had in the first half came from that side of the field, and while we may have been unlucky with Abidal's own goal, we have been fortunate enough that Soldado completely misfired on that one-on-one against Valdés (besides the many other chances they had). Betis has also shown that they have the capability to expose the 3-4-3, shown by their good performance at Camp Nou. Milan and Real Madrid, even though obviously better teams than Valencia and Betis, have failed to make a result against the 3-4-3, and that was mostly because their own tactic wasn't an appropriate weapon against Barça's formation, and of course, due to team clearly showing more grit and will in derby matches. Now, while the Espanyol was a derby match too, it was an our own early goal that "killed" us, because the team simply stopped trying to create chances that much as simply keeping possession. But obviously, Espanyol is not a team that you can simply dangle around with a slim 1-0 for the almost entire match. Though I'll admit there have been serious refereeing mistakes that have affected the final outcome greatly. And Getafe match was just a bad day… Even thoug Guardiola subbing Keita in at 0-0 was pretty strange and counter-productive, in my opinion. We needed a creator, someone who can make things happen on the offensive end, and subbing Thiago, who is such a player, for Keita, who's almost the completely opposite (mostly used to reinforce the defense in midfield) didn't look like the right choice. But going back to the three-four-three rant, it's simply astounding how this match was different from our every other away match and in most of those matches (if not all of them), 3-4-3 was used as a starting formation. Maybe it's just Messi's change of form, but I can't help but think that going back to 4-3-3 has got something to do with his excellent scoring display tonight. While his passing is always peerless, his consistent scoring was kinda absent in our run with the 3-4-3. Another thing might have been Cesc's absence. While I do agree that his stats are admirable, especially if you remember he was injured for some time, his contribution to the teams flow has been negative, in my opinion. What I'm getting at here is that he's too direct for our game. Almost every time he gets the ball, the first thing he does is look ahead for a long pass or a through ball. And he is a master at this, and he perfected these skills in England, but he's not in Arsenal anymore. A team like Barcelona doesn't often benefit from long passes and deep through balls, but honestly, Cesc hasn't got much more to him when it comes to passing the ball, because it's plain obvious that his short passing is very bad, dare I say, relatively horrible. Relatively, because in comparison with every other player on the team, he probably makes the most mistakes with short passes that should be simple for a Barça midfielder. All of that has led Fábregas to be an outstanding striker for us, but he still spends most of his time in the middle of the field, whether it's in the center or on the wings, and he hasn't done well there. But each time he goes forward, he first exploits and gets into space as if he's one of the world's finest center forwards, then either finished with ease or finds a teammate to assist to. Of course, all of this is just my opinion, and I really wish that the 3-4-3 or Cesc aren't the reasons that we are dropping points here and there, but then again, maybe that still be better than a lack of form/focus/will…?
You wanna make a quick summary with the main points of your comment…?
3-4-3 can be used only against certain teams, the ones that don't have the sufficient power in the wings and don't employ a tactic that will overload a wing because that's how Valencia was killing us in that game. Messi can make most of his goal scoring skills in the 4-3-3 where he's a false 9, while in the 3-4-3 he's either a deep lying playmaker or a winger. Cesc is both a blessing and a curse, having scored many goals and created many assists for us, but his performances deeper in the midfield (which is still his main focus in the game) needs major improvement because he's probably our worst player when it comes to short passing as he makes a lot mistakes with simple passes. His game is also too direct for this Barça side as he often attempts deep through balls and long passes that our players aren't used to receive, and while that helps us greatly in some cases, Pep still needs to balance his game between the short passing and "take your time" game style and trying to play through balls and long passes forward as often as possible. Again, a long post, but I don't think I can make it any shorter than this, so…
cool, thanks
formation notwithstanding, messi’s away form have been bad, so was the team’s. Now he seem to have found his feet, i can only see improvement.
Those critcizing cesc addition- well it is a shame. He has snatched pionts for us in various grounds. Without him,it would have been a lot worse.
I would say stop thinking about Madrid for now, yes some – not all – of the points we dropped were due to sloppy play and it would hurt to lose la liga – God forbids – due to that or worse due to some bad ref calls here and there but I say we put all this behind us, try to focus on our game play like yesterday and win as many games as we can … eventually Madrid might drop points when we least expect it, they have their weaknesses and their luck will run out someday – hopefully –
I think it is worthless for us to blame refs and do all the stupid talk.
We know that madrid is paying the refs and also spain football federation.
And they will only won one trophy (likely la liga), and that is all they will got. And we will win quintiple again.
I think that is fair
Why all this complians. This players are doing there best. Its not easy to have stayed consistant this long. Ref or no ref, disallowed or no disallowed, there are still 19league games to go, and we will come out good. The team knows about their away form more than we do and Pep and his boys are ready to work on it. All we need do is support our team because they deserve it and not criticize them and talk about ref or disallowed goals. All this we can’t change but we can support our club in a way that will motivate them to do more. Great game last 9t. Behold a new barca with a great form home and away. Visca Barca.
