Youth: FC Barcelona Reserve Team Makes History

Youth: FC Barcelona Reserve Team Makes History
Jonathan Soriano, Segunda Division's Top Scorer

FC Barcelona B, under Luis Enrique, despite some heavy losses this season, closes its season with style – By winning away from home, at the Teresa Rivero, against second-placed Rayo Vallecano (2-3), thus preventing the Madrid-based team from snatching Real Betis’s Segunda Division’s crown.

That win also saw the team successfully defend its third place in the standings, the best in Barca’s history for a reserve squad. Along with Betis, it is also the highest scoring team in the division, with 85 goals with Jonathan Soriano declared as the division’s top scorer with 32 goals.

  1. Eto_o9 says:

MAAAN this show how powerfull is La Mesia and look at this Barca B should now be at primera :D

    • Stevecaresx says:

They can't play in the la liga because the wonderful Barcelona is there. Two teams can't play in the same league. But indeed, it's a great perfomance from our team B. Uhmm, where is Real Madrid B? Lol

      • Daddy says:

its not fair to Barca that the B team can not be promoted – Madrid has it s B and C team in primera: atletico and espanyol respectively.

  2. HieiFCB says:

Its a shame they can't play playoffs! 3rd till 6th place play the playoffs and we are on top of tht list LOL!!

OT: Afellay's 15 consecutive wins with the Holland national ended yesterday after a 0-0 draw vs Brazil.
I hope he can have such a record next season with Barcelona =D

  3. Reevenge says:

    Spectacular achievement, really!

For me, the B-teams achievements, rather than the First Team players from La Masia is the true exponent for the remarkable youth set-up in Catalunya's finest club, since this is the first time ever in the history of La Liga that a Reserves Squad reach a place that would actually grant them a season in the best division.

And they would probably continue to develop and perhaps stay free of relegation, had they been able to play in La Liga. Truly amazing.

    • Vaffanculo says:

When Pep took over Barca B in 2007 they were still in 4th division and didnt have any clue how they would survive without Bojan who was promoted

    • Radwansky says:

I think Real madrid B won the segunda division title once or twice before , and wasn't allowed to play in LA LIGA as well

      • buj says:

        Segunda Champion once: 1983-84. Segunda B [Third division] 3 times: 1990-91, 2001-02, 2004-05.

  4. El_Salvador says:

This is just unbelievable, what an achievement by Luis Enrique and his players! If it were possible, Barça would have 2 teams in La Liga next season.
I can only stand and applaude for this team. The best thing about this achievement is that it was done while on many occasions the team wasn't at full strength because the best players were away with the first team.

Congrats to Jonathan Soriano, 32 goals in a season is very good! I wonder where he will go to next season. I hope he stays at Barça B!

    • Rooney says:

i hope he doesnt stay. He does not deserve to be in a B team. Barca should know better than this and they would do something if they really wants the best for soriano's career

  5. Stevecaresx says:

Great team. And they'll play in the copa del rey. What an achievment if Barca B kick Real Madrid ass in the copa del rey!

    • R. Baggio says:

They won't :/ Again it's not possible for two teams based on the same club to play in Copa

  6. ali says:

its quite an achievement given the fact that apart from thiago who didnt even play half the games this team didnt have any wonderkid in it unlike other B teams of Barca,. A lot of credit must go to Enrque..Out of ths team thiago, sergi roberto, fontas have a realstic chance of being a barca star. though romeo muniesa and montoya can also be stars if they keep improving

  7. El_Messiah says:

From playing in the third division last season to finishing third in the segunda division this season, a phenomenal achievement! :)

  8. Daddy says:

Job well done boys – go Betis go!

  9. Pieyanthikos says:

This achivement is truly outstanding. Let's hope that Barca B can maintain their participation in la segunda after next season.. quite some changes there's going to be over the summer with a new manager and players leaving (at least Thiago, Fontás, Nolito and maybe Soriano). Hopefully the players from Juvenil are ready to take over.

  10. indianmuggle says:

What will happen if Barca B gets promoted to first division? Will they play against their seniors?

    • ImGood says:

They wont get that far because the rules say you can't have 2 teams in the same division. So if Barcelona A got a religation, Barca B would automaticly go one down as well.

  11. El_Salvador says:

I think that's Theo Janssen from Holland. Last season he played for FC Twente and a few days ago he was transferred to Ajax. Why?

  12. Eric_Castel says:

Barca B should go for Copa Del Rey next season.
    This is my freaky scenarios
Barca wins Spanish super cup against Madridistas customers.
Barca wins European Super Cup against Porto
    Barca wins la liga
    Barca wins UEFA Champions League
Barca wins FIFA Club World Cup
Barca B wins Copa del Rey and qualify for UEFA Europa League

And the next season (2012-2013) Barca does the unbelievable
Barca wins spanish super cup against Barca B
    Barca wins European Super Cup
    Barca wins La Liga
    Barca wins Copa del Rey
    Barca wins UEFA Champion League
Barca wins FIFA Club World Cup
Barca B wins UEFA Europa League(+Segunda)
And miraculously Barcelona has 7(+1) trophies

  13. barcaholic says:

32 goals from Soriano!!! Honestly I must confess that I haven't seen him play but someone who scores 32 goals in a season (one more than Messi in La Liga!) in my opinion deserves to show his skills in the first division. What do you think?

    Visca Barca!

    • Sectarian says:

Pep gave him opportunities this season, but he failed to impress.

      • inimesavi says:

In what games did pep use soriano and he failed to impress? or are you talking about Bojan?

      • inimesavi says:

According to ESPNsoccernet player profile in his first 32 games Soriano scored 26 goals from 27 shots, now i'm not sure if that is accurate but if it is, compare that to ronaldo's 40 goals from 250 shots or even Messi's 31 goals from 150 shots and that's some amazing numbers, now i'm not saying that he should be in the starting 11 in the first team but he definitely deserve a chance at the least same as Bojan and Jeffren

        • Erich says:

That's not true. I saw Barça B many times this season and Soriano definately missed a few shots more. ;-)

    • Erich says:

Definately! It can't be that a player who scores 32 goals in the Segunda doesn't get a chance because another player who mostly only stumbles over the pitch (Bojan) stands above him. If Bojan would be a player they bought 2 years ago and not from la Masia, he'd be long gone.

      • xaviesta says:

yeah, bojan is being spoiled being praised and played 15 minutes every other game. we need to tell him he's shit and hope he start to realize that he's not deserves wearing no 9.

  14. mikkelman089 says:

wow! tenerife is relegated to the 3rd devision from being in la liga last year? what happened?

  15. barca4eva says:

OT : I read somewhere that today is macherano's birthday…..HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HIM!!!!
forgive me if i'm wrong though

  16. DinoFCB says:

wow really really imoressed by the B team! Masia has so much talent it's ridiculous i'm so happy to be a barca fan!

  17. ray says:

Anyone see the report Rosells weird speach about Wembley on the offical website??? What the hell is he talking about… Saying some people around the club havent known how to enjoy it and that HE has a great team,………… I dont know too much about Rosell but everytime I have read a quote from him he seems to be makin a show of us or himself

  18. Cule says:

    Dream for nextt season.

    In – Fabregas – Rossi – Botia – Angel

Out – Milito – Maxwell – Bojan (Loan) And maybe Keita.

  19. ray says:

Wonder if we should bid for Nasri? He has been exceptional this year for Arsenal and would suit our style and would be cheap as chips compared to Fab as he only has one year left

  20. Fortune says:

Hey barca b you guys are good keep it
    visca barca

  21. Rooney says:

I hope Keita will happen. With fabregas here, Keita will not get any single minute. He might as well leave. I am not saying he is not good and does not deserve to be in barca but for our future, fabreagas needs the minute and you dont expect Fab to just sit on the bench. Keita has done all he can for us and it is time for him to leave if fabregas really arrives. Keita needs some football and i hope he goes to a team that treasures him as a starting 11 in which he can still play for 2 to 3 years.

  22. Nicholas Gaffney says:

    32 goals for Soriano :O

  23. _Lily says:

I find it so impressive that they managed that even with half of their best their players going out with the first team throughout the season.

  24. Jesuslovesbarca says:

This is what happens when everyones knows the system and not to the individual. We play the same way from top down and it achieves RESULTS. Fantastic.

  25. am a young talented player and also 16yrs of age and i want you to invitie me for gestify.
