Upcoming Attractions: The Club World Cup is here!

FC Barcelona this week begins their effort to conquer the 2011 Club World Cup in Japan. If all goes as planned, there will be two matches in the competition this week:

Thursday December 15 • Barcelona v Al-Sadd Sports Club • FIFA Club World Cup Semi-Final.

After a long journey to Japan, FC Barcelona will face the current AFC Champions League victors from Qatar, Al-Sadd, in their first match in the CWC semis.

Sunday December 18 • Barcelona v ?? • FIFA Club World Cup Final.

Assuming we make it through to the final, FC Barcelona will face the winner of the other semi-final. Most pundits predict that our opponent will be Neymar’s Brazilian squad Santos.

As always, watch totalBarca for more extensive match previews and news as this tournament develops.

I would love to see Barcelona beat that Qatari team. I would love it!

  2. Messi420 says:

Hope to see Barca vs Santos in the finals..

  3. RSmithCreations says:

Messi vs Neymar in the final … I'm Sure it would be a better battle than Messi vs CR7 … I'm tired of seeing Messi knock that punk out !! #LOL

  4. TNCS says:

Once for all, we shall all see who is better Messi or Neymar. In return I shall hope Pele acknowledge whatever the outcome is.

    • Michael says:

pele really thinks he is the best in history. he is so jealous of messi. messi won 2 times in a row the 2nd place of Ballon D'Or. Then he won it two times in a row. Now he will get his 3rd title. And what is doing that season can lead to a fourth consecutive win and I'm sure he will win it, too. Besides that Messi has won 3 CL titles and every other team title, too.

The only two things Pele were better:
      -WC titles
      -1,000 goals

But Messi would have scored 10,000 goals at Pele's era. Imagine CR without Messi. The people would maybe consider him as the best ever. Bad luck that there was no better player than Pele at his era. Now even Drogba is better.

      • The reason Pele scored 1,000 goals is because he played in american league!
imagine if Messi played in such a rubish leauge!? he would score over 2,000 goals!!!
pele is not the greatest thats why people preffer maradona!

        • minges86 says:

no, he scored most of his goals before that

the reason he scored that many goals was because santos played almost 100 games a year most years, they would tour alot overseas and play rubbish clubs in exhibitions, as well as in brazil against the other sides.

      • Your comment is really true, all you said there is no any rudeness. Without prowess world best player LM10 there would have no any one that can be compare with pele of course.

      • Ali ghandour says:

I lmao when he said that neymar is better since he is more complete than messi but the comeback didn't come from messi but from neymar who said that messi is better than me

      • talkfootytactics says:

simply put – It's impossible to compare the calibre of the two players. They played in different eras of footballing history.

It's like comparing a hawk to a shark when hunting. Both are built to play at their specific game and are impossible to compare them objectively. They have specific sets of skills to dismantle their individual opponents.

    • Meme says:

It is much more reasonable to hope that even Mou acknowledges the outcome than to hope that Pele acknowledges anything other than what his ego conjures

    • Asoto says:

"we shall all see who is better Messi or Neymar" – are you serious? Sorry, but that some journalists wrote somewhere that Neymar is better or at the same level as Leo, doesn't mean that this is the reality. Who have heard of Neymar 1-2 years ago and what has he achieved? He is good, he has qualities but is far far away from Messi, our boy just can't be compared to anyone, what about a 18-19 years old boy…

  5. barcacule says:

I posted this in the other article but I think here is more appropriate.

I think it's going to be really difficult to beat Santos, not because they have the flair of Brazillians, but because they have referees on their side as FIFA tends to side with Brazil. The last time we won that competition we defeated Estudiantes of Argentina. Hmmm…how to explain this? Okay, let Crackovia's Sergio Ramos teaches you…..

FIFA = UEFA, Estudiantes got no favour from FIFA because they aren't Brazillian and Barca got favour from UEFA because they are from Europe. Again, FIFA = UEFA according to Ramos, so FIFA's on Barca's side.

Now that we are meeting a club from Brazil, Sergio Ramos' lesson are now invalid. How? It's like this….

FIFA =/= UEFA, Although UEFA are backing Barca, they have to back off because FIFA are bigger than them, and they are on the Brazillian's side. So now FIFA =/= UEFA, Barca would have no favours from FIFA but Santos do!

Is it going to be like 2006 again? Hopefully not! I couldn't remember how the referees performed back then. Did we lose due to controversial decisions or we were fairly beaten?

    • barcacule says:

Again the smileys! *sigh* I meant to say FIFA isn't equal to UEFA.

    • 1234 says:

why are afraid.. santos vs barca is a dream final.. either santos or barca lose…they will lose with honor of total football…. both are great to watch… and i cant wait to see this match .. atleast its better than classico

    • San says:

Please, anybody who have conspiracy theory about UEFA of FIFA backing "this club" , "that club" is PURELY IDIOT………….period

  6. barcacule says:

Again the smileys! *sigh* I meant to say FIFA isn't equal to UEFA.

  7. Qurius says:

As much as I like the idea of a Club World Cup it is a farce of a competition…a better structure is needed (if possible..since there is so much football to be played these days)!!!

  8. Ortega says:

Can somebody please tell me the time for thursday match? Waiting…

  9. bob says:

Wasn't there a rumour that Pele would play for Santos?

  10. joelap says:

    Valdes
    Alves-Masche-Pique-Maxwell
    Busquets
    Thiago-Keita
    Cuenca-Messi-Villa

  11. walid says:

I hope we come up against Santos, and I really want to see Neymar performing at the highest level.

I really like Neymar. He's one of the best talents I've ever seen. Imo, he would be the perfect player to play in our LW role (almost the same role he plays for Santos). I just hope his attitude and behaviour gets better, but I think it will since he's growing older and becoming more mature.

    • joelap says:

The guy is as lazy and arrogant as can be. Terrible idea to bench Sanchez, Pedro, Villa, Cuenca and other great ones, for a guy like Neymar. Our attack is packed with talented hard working players. We dont need Neymar.

      • smirky says:

i don't know so much about Neymar's work habits or his attitude, because i rarely get to see him play. but i agree with not wanting to bench our other forwards for him. It's already rumored (per barcastuff this morning) that Villa is considering an exit to Man City, Chelsea, or Anzhi. I don't want to see him go – he's a great player who contributes so much to the team.

        • joelap says:

He will have a terrible time at us on the LW, as he will not be getting any support like he has when he plays for Santos, where the team plays around him. The LW in our team is the most isolated position on the pitch, with a defensive LB.

  12. Pudge says:

I would like to see a more humble Neymar – who has matured in a few years. When Barca hammer Santos that will be a humbling experience

  13. bara_afellay says:

If Neymar singles handedly conjures up something brilliant against Barca i expect him in Madrid the following week.

  14. SomosDeCalle says:

    OT: No respect for MONO-Marcelo…never! I'm not a racist,call him Mono,coz he acts like a Monkey,not like a human! [youtube HwZTfZxXX8w&feature=player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwZTfZxXX8w&feature=player_embedded youtube]

  15. anon says:

I'd say sell Villa, buy Neymar in 2012/13 if we need him at the time (La Masia also has some great offers). But we'll see if he is even good enough, I guess.

    • SomosDeCalle says:

Buy Neymar??? I'd say don't buy so expensive players,we don't need him with Messi-Fabregas-Villa-Pedro-Sanchez-Cuenca-Rafinha ! Alba and Botia ( or some other defender) will be perfect IMO !

      • anon says:

I said IF we need him at the time. And we can't just count on Cuenca and Rafinha being star-players in the future! Neymar is already close. But as I said we'll see.

    • barcelona are the richest club in the world they wouldnt need to sell villa!
anyway who would want to sell such a great player?!
i think if messi stayed on the right and put villa as striker like last season then villa would have scored more because most games this season messi was striker and villa was a winger but when messi is on the wing he scores the same amount of goals? so it should be like that because i feel sorry for villa

      • bara_afellay says:

I've seem that a couple times this season Villa still struggle to connect passes and score goals, hate to say it but Villa is getting up there with age + confidence issues. Still a great player though.

    • Megster says:

As long as Pep is the manager, David Villa won't go anywhere.

  16. Sal says:

    he's monkey's a*****e :D

  17. awuku says:

Pele never scored 1000 goals. From genuine sources he scored abt 453 goals in official matches the rest no one knows where it comes from. Some being goals he scored in personal duels n charity matches. He also never played in a respectable league. And was part of the best Brazillian and probably best national team of all time. I hate when some pundits goes on abt Messis national team contribution n him (Messi) proven himself by winning a world cup. Which world cup winning team in history do u put Messi in; that he wont win?

  18. Sarti says:

Man, I enjoy this World Championship sop much! The most thrilling aspect of Barcelona's play is not just that they have Messi and 3 or 4 of the greatest players on earth today but that their integrated team play is so impressive. They are capable of moving the ball at speed from a seemingly difficult tight position in their own half to setting up a goalscoring opportunity on the edge of the opponents area in just a matter of seconds. They do this time and time again during the match. Incredible!
