Transfer Madness!

Transfer Madness!

The winter transfer market just closed but that has done absolutely nothing to stem the tide of transfer speculation around our beloved FC Barcelona. Read on for a quick summary of the weeks’ main stories.

Incoming

• Will Chelsea, or Real Madrid, steal Cesc out from under our noses?

The “active” [read: insane] winter transfer market in England means inflated player prices for the foreseeable future. The Catalan press has speculated that both Chelsea and Real Madrid will make a decisive swoop for Cesc Fabregas; Arsenal’s reported asking price: 65 million Euros.

• Will Barcelona respond with an end run?

El Mundo quoted Javier Faus, Barcelona’s vice president of finances, as claiming that the club had a summer transfer budget of 40 or 45 million euros [barring major player sales]. Sport speculated that those millions could lure any one of the following: Iker Muniain, Borja Valero, Daniele de Rossi, Gareth Bale or Xabi Prieto. Are any of these pretenders suitable replacements for Cesc?

• Will San José be our new Central Defender?

With Milito certainly on his way out this summer, and Puyol getting slower ever year, Sport has speculated that Athletic Bilbao defender San Jose is being scouted as a potential replacement. Tall, strong and young are all fitting adjectives, but what of La Masia?

Outgoing

• Is Bojan headed to Liverpool?

The ever-trustworthy Sport reported last week that our very own Bojan Krkic is likely to join EPL squad Liverpool, in a deal worth 20 million Euros. I guess after paying 41 million euros for Andy Carroll, anything’s possible!

• Will Keita desert the club for Bayern?

Finally, will Seydou Keita, our midfield swiss army knife be heading north to Germany? If reports in Sport, quoting the bible of football reporting goal.com, are accurate, then Bayern Munich may be lining up a 12 million euro bid for the player.
