Stat of the Day: A happy coincidence?

Stat of the Day: A happy coincidence?

Barca B striker Gerard Deulofeu made his senior team debut during Saturday’s 5-0 mauling of Mallorca, making him the 19th member of Barcelona’s youth squad to make debuts under Pep Guardiola. Deulofeu, still just 17, entered the match in the 63rd minute to take David Villa’s place in attack. Even more interesting: Deulofeu’s debut, on October 29, comes exactly nine years to the day after the debut of a certain Andres Iniesta, who himself tasted senior team action for the first time on October 29, 2002.

  2. nagra says:

Let florentino take Neymar and Harzard, we have Deulofeu and Cuenca. Barca all the way

    • diehardbarca says:

      You are right!!!

    • DoRy says:

      OT:
Pele said that if he'd get to play with anyone, he'd choose to play with Neymar over Messi. Just came to thinking if Messi was Brazilian, he'd be like the 2nd greatest person in the world ever in Pele's opinion. After himself of course.
Do you guys also think that sometimes Pele just talks too much? What does he have to prove in case if he thinks he's so great? Just funny to me. And Neymar is so overrated. So glad we have Cuenca and Deulofeu.

      • _Lily says:

Pele definitely talks too much, and he trash-talks Messi ridiculously often. Dude, you were a great player. Now STFU and stop trying to diminish the best player of this generation. It's embarrassing.

      • ThaCule says:

Some people just have a hard time letting go. Pele was probably brilliant in his days, when defenders stood like 'Zlatan the Statue' in defence.

  3. Levan_FCB says:

FCB's Future. Gerard and Cuenca are great payers

  4. Nicholas Gaffney says:

I'm so glad Pep is giving these guys chances in the first team

    • Ashh says:

just shows that you dont have to be like Man City and Madrid splashing the cash, when you have awesome youth players FORCA BARCAA

  5. rogerevans says:

    Visca la Masia!

  6. nagra says:

Neymar to Moudrid for 60M. Harzard to Moudrid for 35M. Deulofeu and Cuenca at Barca for 0M. Ha ha ha. Visca La Masia. Barca all the way.

  7. Mile says:

Coincidence? No at all it's destiny!!! Delofeu will become one of Best player in the world like Mesi,Henry type mark my word.Visca Barca!

  8. Ashh says:

i think in years to come both Cuenca and Deulofeu will be both Ballon D'or winners have soo much talent

    • pillowboy says:

not cuenca. Deulofeu needs to polish up every aspect of his game and I can see him winning if his childhood perfiormance is of any indication of what he is capable of.

      • _Lily says:

I tend to agree with this. Cuenca has the potential to be really, really great, but so is David Villa, and he's never won the Ballon d'Or. God, even Henry never actually won. You need to be the best of the best of the best.

        • Ashh says:

true.. i personally think despite him making his best start to a season in a Barca shirt but i think David Villa isnt as sharp as he used to be like last season but he'll soon bounce back to scoring many goals for club and country

  9. aicha55 says:

    this is barca future

  10. ChrisKamara says:

For Christ's sake! Will you people stop going on about how Deulofeu and Cuenca are going to be the next superstars, because it's far too early to tell. We all know they both possess a fantastic talent, but sometimes fortune doesn't always favour footballers futures. Not so long ago everyone (myself included) was talking about Gai Assulin (who moved to City and is yet to feature in an offical match) and Giovanni dos Santos (who can't get a look in at Tottenham). Them two we're both hailed as the next big thing. I'm not trying to talk them down, currently they are both great talents but can improve much much more (obviously).

    • Ashh says:

we all know its too early they both need years to prove themselves and Pep wont sell those 2 cos he doesnt want a repeat of Cesc fabregas and they talking about renewing Deulofeu contract at the end of the year cos Arsenal and Chelsea were intrested in him

    • Some - Body says:

Dude, stop being such a negative bitch.

      • ChrisKamara says:

No need for the bad language mate. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, and if you disagree then explain it using constructive criticism instead of using swear words. Tell me, do you feel more manly swearing over the internet?

    • bresh says:

You are right, they yet have to develop into superstars… but right now we are talking that they are promising talents, that deserve first team tryouts. Gio isnt doing that bad. Remember he scored hat trick in his last Barca game. Last season he was doing great in Racing, and he didnt do bad this season at Tottenham either… maybe he'll finally get his real chance this year. He's almost regularly named into 18-man squad on the gameday. Otherwise i'd rather see him in Primera in Spain, his style of play fits perfectly here.

  11. love me barca says:

i want that pep give chance to rafinha, espinoza too in first team.they are deserved.

  12. bresh says:

i must admit this Cuenca is positive suprise for me this season… i didnt expect it from him… and after seeing what he shown in last game, i'm full of praise! I hope that the best is yet to come! Humiliate Madrid again please!!!

  13. Mercury_FCB says:

Yes a happy coincidence. I would not say they will be winners of Balon d'Or in the future or things like that. We'll see. Great talents but their promotion to the first team and adaptation to men's fotball is not so easy to everyone. La Masia is producing huge prospects for the next years, not only these two but also players like Rafinha, Sergi Roberto, Dongou, Espinosa, Grimaldo etc…they could be easily our key players in few years. On the other hand its almost sure only few of them will make it. One thing is clear – Barca have really really good perspective for the future.

  14. Ghost_of_Sparta says:

And 11 months since the 5-0 trashing we gave RM :D

  15. sky says:

Cuenca is too skinny. At least a weight like that of thiago would help him a lot.The medics should see to it.Barca 4 ever.

  16. Jme says:

I didn’t like him on Saturday. he was holding on to the ball way to long and losing it. probably trying to hard to impress.

  17. Caesarean says:

19 young players is impressive, that has got 2 be a record on its own. Thank u Pep, you have brought tha best times in my Barca supporting career.
