A number of the players spoke to the press following FC Barcelona’s victory over Rayo Vallecano (4-0). Topics touched upon by the players include the difficulty and tactics of their latest game, happiness for Alexis Sanchez and his brace, and an eye turned towards December 10 and the match with Real Madrid.

David Villa

“We played well. It was important to continue adding [points] and we have achieved a comprehensive result.”

“When I don’t score it’s always said that I need it [the goals], but when the goal does not arrive I try to do other things. And I’m equally content.”

About his relationship with Messi: “I stay above the controversy. It does not matter to me what they say outside.”

Javier Mascherano

“We knew that it was going to be a very difficult match. Rayo is a team that presses a lot. It cost us a lot at the start. We did not have our usual fluidity.”

On the formation shift during the game: “We readjusted the system for them [Rayo], we were more comfortable and could better trouble Rayo.”

“The important thing is not to go crazy. We have to go game by game. With an eye on Madrid, but it’s fundamental to isolate ourselves to that which is ours.”

Andres Iniesta

“The difference is what it is, but much remains. Work is good but we need something more because Madrid requires us to do so. There is very little margin for error.”

Referring to the team’s form at the Camp Nou: “The numbers are very significant. In the stadium we are having a good line. Outside it costs us a little bit more, but we are working to improve this situation.”

“We study the rivals, but, at times, when they play against us they change the formation of play. The coaching staff takes charge of telling us how the rival moves and we apply variations in the system of play to confront these matches.”

Regarding the goals from Alexis Sánchez and David Villa: “It’s great news, we all know that the forwards thrive on their goals and for them as well as the team it is phenomenal.”

“Soon we’ll have the clash against Madrid, this is the league, the demand of each year, of playing with Barça and to always be fighting for all the competitions.”

Dani Alves

“It’s been a tough match, against a team with personality, but we found the goal, we’ve been very successful.”

Regarding Alexis: “I am very happy for him, he works well, and has been on target in front of goal and ultimately was able to score two goals.”

Víctor Valdés

“We’ve obtained a great victory against a Rayo Vallecano side that made us work hard. Three very important points.”
