Piqué’s yellow card under review
As several major papers in Spain are reporting, there is a possibility, albeit small, that FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué could be forced to miss two leagues games, including the one against Real Madrid, for forcing his fifth yellow card in the match against Rayo Vallecano.
The Comité de Competición met this Wednesday to study the different sanctions of matchday 14, but in the meeting the action in which Gerard Piqué saw his fifth yellow card against Rayo was not analyzed. In fact, the Committee will meet again on Friday to review the refereeing minutes presented by Pérez Lasa after the FC Barcelona-Rayo match.
If the tribunal follows their official policy, Gerard Piqué could be sanctioned in accordance with point 3 of article 112 of the Disciplinary Code of the RFEF, which was recently modified. This point states that “the footballer that in the course of a match forces the fifth caution (···) will be able to be sanctioned, in addition to the previous sanction (···) with an additional match suspension and an accessory fine in the amount of 600€.” Therefore, the central defender for the blaugrana would miss the match with Levante and the clásico against Real Madrid if it is decided that the fifth yellow was deliberately forced.
This possibility, if it persists, will only be possible if the Committee officially takes action as the the referee for Barça – Rayo, Miguel Ángel Pérez Lasa, exposed exclusively that Piqué saw the yellow “by delaying the resumption of a kick with the intention of time wasting”. From Madrid there is already pressure to have the Catalan defender miss the clásico. If the blaugrana player receives the two game ban it would be an unprecedented case.

It is not disgraceful as pique and Alves (and busuets and keita to a lesser extent) are always targeted by referees and pick up yellow cards when they didn't merit any.
They could do well and review some the soft yellow cards that he was given forcing him to take such actions.
They can also review how come Barca come to pick up so many cards when they commit so few fouls. In fact I can say with a high degree of certainty, that Barca's ratio of fouls to yellow cards is highest in the Liga.
been watching barca for 11 years now and never seen one of our players pick up a yellow that way (purposely not taking a freekick in hope of getting one)…much prefer if he hacked down someone to be honest lol

I dont know if people have just started watching football or something but this has been done for YEARS, even by BARCA players. We are fooling ourselves if we think that not all players do this.Iniesta did it last year in the CL, Dani has done it almost every season and MANY other players from ALL other teams have done it, will do it and will continue to. It would be a shame if they decide to punish this act(which I dont see as a big deal) NOW.
Yes he made it look obvious, it was dumb but I really dont see the big deal. The rule should have been reiterated and enforced BEFORE the start of the season not when a Barca player does it cause I am sure I saw Xabi Alonso force a fifth yellow card in a match not too long ago.

I have been watching football for a while now and although i've seen teams do it, I still think Barca is the only team that does it while taking free kicks in their own half. They delay taking the kick for as long as takes to get booked Pique did it last match and several players have done it before as well as Marquez I remember him doing it few years ago where he was asking the referee to book him. There are other ways they could do it such as making tackle or handling the ball, rather then just standing there and pretending they taking free kick where it's so abvious .
Hand the ball or tug a shirt would be more subtle
I am sure you have no doubt that both Pique and Busi would be booked in the games against Levante if they would play. It doesn't matter if they would do something or not.
This year it is so obvious how refs are trying to do everything to bring Real to the title :uncalled penalties for Barca, quick booking, ignorance to fouls against Messi, Xavi, Iniesta (recall last game?).

What surprises me more that Barca fans join the chorus orchestrated by Marca in blaming Pique, instead of blaming the ref for unfair treatment similar cases of Xabi Alonso.
The game with Atletico-Real was 4 days before Barcelona game, all commentators talked about intentional booking by Xabi Alonso to be cleared for Classico. But no committees, no112 article.
Why all this noise with Pique started? Because he didn't injured anybody like Xabi Alonso tried?
So Real is allowed to clear the cards in Laliga to be in full strength in Classico and we are not?
It seems they do not feel so superior to us after all, if they ensuring right players on the field.
We are human afterall and need full strength too.

It was very stupid. Wonder what Pique was thinking. Cant believe that he is so stupid. He could just have been on the bench for the Levante game, the game was already over.
Meh I'll be surprised if anything actually happens from this. This has been done numerous times by players from every team, it's not a new phenomenon. It's one of those things where if you enforce this for this one time, it will have to be enforced every other time.
How I personally feel about the incident however, thats another issue.
How come there are rules and players who're supposed to follow do not know about it? What if there's a rule saying " Every goal scored by a left foot will not be counted" in RFEF rulebook or whatever and nobody knows about it. Messi will have to use his right foot? Xabi Alonso did the same thing, nothing happened! But I'm pretty fuckin' confident we can kick their a$s without Pique! We have Puyol and Mascherano! I'm really tired of this bull$hit!

Actually, Pique should have flat-out clattered someone (and possibly broken their leg). Then nobody would be arguing about a phony yellow card.
He also could have handled the ball as defenders often do to gain advantage. Or kick the ball away or something. Something that is not so blatantly obvious.
even if pique gets a 2 game ban he will appeal and it will be reduced to 1. el classico is la liga's premier match up, i think it was watched by 400 million people last year (manita)! both xabi and pique will play.

I’m really disappointed by pique’s actions. If he was that afraid of getting a yellow, pep could just rest him vs levante, but this stupid shit happens now. I hope it’s a 1 match ban so we can play in the Classico with: dani-Masch/puyol-pique-Abidal

Quite ridiculous to think Pique was time-wasting in a game already won by a wide margin, and there was no red card to Barcelona!
As I said: would you prefer it if he had chopped someone's legs out from under him and got a yellow (or even a straight red). Then there could be no claims it was a contrived yellow card.
What they really should do is allow a player to nominate that he will be taking a yellow card at the end of a game. Should be his decision when he's going to incur the suspension.

guys can we stop trying to advocate for this. Personally I saw this incident as disgraceful. Pique could have been on the bench against Levante and avoid a fifth yellow card.
I will forever be a fan of this team but it doesn’t mean that I have to agree to everything that someone within the team does. That yellow card was very disgraceful in my opinion. Just too obvious.
If further repercussions are what Pique qill face, then I understand.
If the Spanish Football Federation make Pique miss el clasico, then the world will know they are acting Real Madrid's script. Let them make him miss Levante only. Against whom and when was the last time the Federation applied such regulation? As a Barca fan, I know with Pique and Puyol in our rearguard, Madrid will lose at Bernabeu; they are very jittery over this el clasico because in 11 previous meetings, Messi has posted 14 goals past Casillas in all competitions and we've lost very few matches with Pique and Puyol at the back! Mourinho has all these facts.

Pique does strike me as being pretty thick to be honest. If he wanted a yellow, there are other, less obvious ways of going about it but i guess that was to much trouble. Well done Pique, a real masterstroke there.

What Pique did is indeed not new to football, but I must say the way he did was quite embarrassing to say the least. Pique could have just pulled the opponent's shirt or maybe protest against the ref or something. Ok, maybe not. I must say I'm not so surprised that he might miss the game because it was so deliberate, it wasn't even funny. At one stage the ref actually allowed him more time to take that free. The ref was well aware of what Pique was doing and as a result the ref felt disrespected and fooled. I'm a die hard Barca fan but I must say, I'm not going to be sad if Pique is suspended for Real Madrid. It was really stupid and the re-action of Pep says it all. And I agree with most of the comment, deliberate yellow cards are common in football, but I'm sorry to say that Pique was just not well planned. It was just too obvious and crazy!!

Eh, it was a dumb card by Pique. I would rather have El Capitan (puyol) and Mascherano at centre defense for now, because Pique hasn't been playing well, he needs to regain his form.
